If mostly for gaming, I'd definitely go with the RX 6650 XT since the cheaper ones hover around $260+. It's 12% faster than the A770 and 18% faster than the A750, although Intel's recent driver updates might've closed the gap a little bit. For how large the A750/A770 die was, they underperform quite a bit so I'd hope they improve all year. If I wanted a new 1080p build today, I'd almost certainly go with the RX 6650 XT at $260 since this year's releases look to be quite demanding.

Benchmarks/relative performance: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-s...0-xt.c3898

Update: As noted, I'm aware of the driver update that was recently announced. Some people have complained that benchmarks shared put Intel in a bad light and claim the a750/a770 perform much better now but have not provided reputable benchmarks to back up their claims. Few notes here:
- I did not see a single DX9 title as part of Techpowerup's extensive list of benchmarking games. They generally focus on popular, somewhat demanding titles from the last 7 years. Therefore, the DX9 driver improvements alone would not change their ranking at TPU. Also, TPU has updated their relative performance numbers since they have changed since the arc A770's launch review.
- PCWorld just released a small set of updated benchmarks for the arc A770. They have a modest 9 game benchmark that includes a DX9 and DX10 game with the rest being newer DX11/12 titles. Since they didn't provide a summary, I ran the numbers myself. The A770 FPS results comparing launch day to now increased 22.45% overall and 5.95% for DX11/12 games.

Happy to see DX9 get such a boost and make Intel more competitive, but I'd really rather see improvements for demanding games where 60+ FPS at 1080p can be a struggle with higher settings along with bug fixes.

I purchased one of these a while back and had major driver and crashing issues during games. I ended up returning it. I'll wait until Intel gets better with their drivers...

Probably not a great idea as resizable BAR is mandatory for acceptable performance on ARC. Cutting the bus bandwidth down to 4 lanes and shoving it over a Thunderbolt connection is a ball of wax best avoided IMO.

Anyone try this in an eGPU? Any prcos/cons pairing with intel or amd processor?
Considering this or 6600XT/6650XT which are +- $25.
whatever performs best at 2k+ - egpus actually run better at higher resolution. Processor you can grab the i5-1240p

Hopefully in 5 or 6 generations Intel will be able to compete with the other two.

NVIDIA has turned to a scum company.
How do you mean? These cards are already competitive with low-end cards from AMD and Nvidia like the 3060, and that was before their latest driver updated that resulted in a 10-80% increase in performance, while also being less expensive. I think many people gaming at 1080 have no problem with a $250-$350 card considering the shenanigans of AMD and Nvidia right now.

You could just say you're happy with the status quo of paying $1000+ for a good video card 🙂

Note that I am not buying one, but if someone wanted to in order to encourage Intel to not drop the whole project, why not?

At this point if you are buying Intel GPUs you are probably doing it to support some competition, rather than buying it because you think they are good. I'm not knocking it, though, because that's a perfectly rational thing to do. Need some more competition in that space for sure.
I think there's some value there for Intel GPUs, especially if you have a specific game or games that you know they'll work well with. The issue has been legacy support, especially DX9, which it seems like they're ironing out.

The Tom's Hardware review found that the A750 outperformed the RX 6700 XT, which costs about $350 according to another SD thread right now. It's just that when the A750 stumbles, it falls hard. Personally, I might seriously consider one of the Intel cards if I were in the market right now.

Yeah, I'm stoked to reward the only two chip manufacturers. I love supporting marginal improvements and duopolistic pricing. /s

I would get the 6650xt or 6600xt you'll get better support. These cards should go on a fire sale soon or end up in the dump.
The dumpster? They're not that bad. They certainly had a rough launch and some teething pains, but intel has been working on improving the drivers non-stop since launch and performance has improved dramatically in the most popular games, including DX9 games, with more improvements to come. At launch the A770 was almost trading blows with the 3060ti, and the 750 was not far behind. Considering that they were priced in line with the performance they had at launch, by this time in the cycle I'd consider them a solid bargain with a regularly improving value proposition.

Now if they'd just cut the price on the A770 that thing would be a steal. I missed the chance at an open box A770 at MC for $300 the other week, but I've got my eyes peeled for another shot.

To be fair, they are giving competition a chance to build a business. Nobody is going to be able to compete with the incumbents out of the gate, when those incumbents has been around for many decades building out a trench.

So you end up with a chicken and egg problem. Nobody will support the Intel GPU, because it doesn't have the market size, and thus nobody will buy the GPU, because it lacks support from developers. Chicken and egg problem.

That said, Intel should have been willing to eat massive losses to build out the support. What they were offering really wasn't competitive given the downsides.

I think someone reasonable could be purchasing an ARC card based on it's future potential given Intel has a lot of room for improvement with drivers vs a card that has been out 2-3 years and is probably close to its limits. I wouldn't buy one right now (I went AMD) since I care more about the current performance, but maybe people think Intel will make rapid progress or are on a longer timeline.

These Intel arc gpus are pretty much the only GPU option if u want AV1 encoding and do some light gaming. AMD and Nvidia currently doesn't have anything to compete in this price range with AV1 encoding.
