Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

will porting over from google voice be enough?

I just asked fi rep and she said it will. I just created a voice number and placed an order.
Quote from mokash34 :
Yes. That worked for me when buying my Fold4 through a similar promotion. You may or may not have to pay the $3 Google Voice unlocking fee. I did to be safe.
Promotion terms has below:

You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

So, are we sure Google voice number port in qualifies?

This seems to be a better deal than with Samsung. Their trade deals also are not good. Fi is giving more tradein value. With $400 trade-in for S21 ultra and $600 off for Fi bring your own number this deal brings down cost of S23 Ultra 512gb to just $200.
Google is actually offering higher value for the S21 series than the s22 series for some reason
S22 ultra is under $400
S21 base model is about $400 too
I'm planning to try to sell my phone locally as it's worth more than the trade in value
And historically I've seen a ton of posts about Google trade ins going sideways and people having to fight for a long time to get their credit, if any

I saved the chat transcript just in case. She said it is eligible for the promotion.

Yep. Because chat said it checks for last connected IMEI or whatever so as long as it's not inserted into different phone it won't cause a problem. But on the other hand Very small number of people will be porting in a throwaway number.

Not true. I got the ZFold 4 and activated with their SIM and using with Verizon & TMobile and my counter is 13 days left. I inserted Verizon Sim after I saw the counter working on Fi site. Fi Sim is in my drawer. As long as you don't insert the Fi Sim in another device you are good.

I understand it's Google Fi rule, If I order I'll follow these instructions. But as long as you are paying for the service and for the 120 days period why it bothers Google Fi if the Fi Sim is used in another device?

Hopefully it will workout. But in the worst case scenario, good luck with the chat transcript, they can always say the chat rep is misinformed.

I'm not sure if a Voice transfer counts for this promotion, though I believe a Voice ported number counted toward my $10 promo a while back

It seems safer to me to port the number from Voice to a small MVNO like Tello or Ultra (costs $3 to transfer out from Voice, plus one month service on Tello is like $6,

But you might need to buy a sim and wait for it to arrive before you can port the number back out

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
have always pulled the sim from my fi phones upon receipt and used the phone with another carrier. NEVER had a single chargeback in over 6 devices.

For existing FI customers, when you order the phone, do you actually choose which line to upgrade? When I went through checkout, there was no option to choose which line to upgrade. Is this done after receiving the phone?

I see group plan has a max of 6, so is that max for this promotion?

"Your group members will choose their numbers when they accept email invitations to your plan"

It looks like each number in the group will be setup under different email, correct?

I used rewards points to purchase the phone. Price was $165 plus one month of cheapest plan.

Yes, it looks like a misprint in the promo details. I think they meant to write this in the promo terms (taken from the S23/S23+ promo terms):
"If you do not currently have Fi service and your last day of Fi service took place within the last 180 days as part of an existing single subscriber or group plan, you must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible."

It looks like the S23 Ultra promo terms are missing the first part of that paragraph which makes it confusing.

I spoke to their support as well, they confirmed it is a misprint and they are working on updating the terms for the S23 Ultra promo.... no ETA on when it will be updated though.
In case anyone else is interested I just heard back from Google Fi support and they have informed me the S23 Ultra promo terms have been updated and they now indeed use the correct language I assumed they meant to use in my previous comment.

https://fi.google.com/about/promo..._upgraders

The page now says:
"If you do not currently have Fi service and your last day of Fi service took place within the last 180 days as part of an existing single subscriber or group plan, you must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible."

So existing customers do not need to port in a number, it's only meant for customers who canceled service within the last 180 days which are technically considered "existing customers" still.

Order away! Decent discount considering no trade-in required.

They (and other carriers) want to maximize the likelihood that you will continue using their service

It would be like Netflix making you watch something every day in exchange for a cheaper price, hoping you get addicted and continue to pay them the rest of your life
