Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Cheapest way to port in a number and cheapest plan to choose? Just want the phone to use on my own carrier.
This has been answered a few times in this thread. But it seems the consensus is to:

Just buy a port out number at numberbarn website for $7 to get the deal here then use it on any network since it's unlocked. Use that throwaway number from the numer barn as your "port" number to Google FI. Choose google Fi cheapest plan which seems to be $20 per months (so so about 80 total +taxes) Then as soon as the phone arrives, put in the google FI sim card, activate it and make a phone call. Then shut it down, pull the google fi sim card out (with the nnumber barn "fake port" numner and toss it in a drawer (Make sure you never put this sim in another device for at least 120 days.) Then you can just pop in your old whatever sim card from verizon/t mobile/*insert any carrier here* and now you can use the new S23 ultra with your old phone number and carrier like normal. Just pay for the google fi fake sim for 120 days and once the credit posts to your account, you can cancel that one.

The terms of the promo states that :
must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services

In that case will numberbarn qualify?
Technically I am guessing they are also not a wireless carrier with service.

Am I understanding correctly?

it is true, you need to use the google fi sim or you will get charge in full

Like the person you quoted, activate the Fi sim on the Fi device upon receipt, and that's about it! You don't need to keep using the Fi sim to maintain eligibility. The only caveat is to NOT use the Fi sim in another device!

Essentially, active the Fi sim on the device, maybe make a couple of calls ( not really required ), pop the Fi sim out and stick in a drawer ( maybe in a pill pouch, marked with a date of activation and a note to never use it in another device ).

Insert whatever service sim you want in the device now and you're good!

Yes, it's one of the payment options.

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
This sure didn't happen with my SIM. It never went in my S22 Ultra other than to activate. Otherwise, it was in a basket on top of my fridge.

Is the trade in value deposited back in the same card that the phone was purchased from? Or is it applied as future bill credits? I can't get a clear answer on this and the checkout page doesn't show one way or the other..

Refunded to the form of payment used during the original transaction. So, if you paid using say Amex / Paypal / VISA etc, the TIV is refunded to the same tender..

Lets see how quickly I can sell my s22u locally and if it sells for a good price before the google fi ships then maybe i wont cancel on this deal. I have a spare phone I can use until the google fi phone is delivered.
Same here. What are you pricing yours at ? I got a $700 offer on a 512gb s22 ultra today which i turned down. I think I'd like $800 ideally.

I agree, doesn't make sense. If I turn off my phone, it wouldn't be able to ping.
It doesn't ping the phone, it checks on the GoogleFi app that you've used to activate the phone. So just factory reset the phone after you've activated the number and keep the sim card in the drawer until promo runs out.

Cool deal but definitely not enough storage. I'm still using the note 20 Ultra because it was the last one with expandable storage.

There are wayyyy too many pages to sort through. Can GV # be used for port-in considering it says it needs to be from a carrier with calling, voice, and data? My GV doesn't have data abilities that I know of. Also, does the $20/mo Flex plan count for the 120 days or does it need to be the $50/mo plan? Sorry if this has been answered. I just don't want to end up paying $1,200+ tax for this by making some rookie mistake. TIA
Yes GV qualifies.

Yes 20/mo plan is fine.
