Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

The problem is not whether you can port, the TOS has changed from previous promotion which it state that the port number come from a provider with data service.
GV does not offer mobile data service
Fi can later claw back your promotion discount even you are able to port and the discount show up in your order.
If they claw it back then I'll return it haha

Do you have multiple lines in your account? When I ordered the phone there was no option to choose which line to upgrade. Do you know if picking the line to upgrade is done after receiving the phone?
I have multiple lines in one account. It does not ask when I ordered and I believe you can activate it on any of the lines in the group.

If you have concern, ask the member who will use this phone to log in and make purchase.

This deal ends in Feb 16 so you have plenty of time. Or you can just go to bestbuy and buy a google fi sim card.
If I buy fi sim from Bestbuy, I can signup for Fi with bring your phone option and become a Fi customer. After this can I immediately upgrade the line and order S23 Ultra?

I'm sure everyone here knows by now that this deal also applies to existing Google Fi customers as well. I just wanted to add that after tax, cash back from CC, and trade-in (Note 20 Ultra valued at $420), I'm getting the S23 Ultra for $200.

Many of us are old enough to remember when most phones were "free" (as long as you signed up for a 2yr contract). It surprises me that many posters here "think" TMobile/Verizon/etc are giving you $800/$1000 trade-in-value for anything. No. It's a contract, plain and simple, even though they're all very careful not to call it that. Some may think "oh, well I'm not planning to leave TMobile, so it's fine that I get $42/mo bill credit for 2 years". Hey, if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy to think you're getting a deal, cool.

For the rest of us, This GoogleFi deal for an unlocked S23 Ultra (after 120 days) is MUCH better than the carrier or Samsung direct deals, even though on the surface Samsung appears to be giving more of a trade-in-value for current devices.

Here's a simple math example:
Samsung direct S23 Ultra - $1200 - $500 (S22U trade in, storage size is irrelevant) = $700
GoogleFi S23 Ultra - $1200 - $600(discount) + $20*4 contract = $680 - No trade in required.

If you did want to trade in an S22 Ultra towards the GoogleFi deal, It would make it $320(1TB), $300(512GB), $280(256GB), $260(128GB) cheaper even still.

In either the Samsung direct or GoogleFi cases, both offer 2 year financing to split up whatever the final cost of the phone is. NOT a contract.
There are 15% cash back when ordering from Samsung.

Does anyone have experience with Google Fi trade-ins? According to some threads the valuation of phones that are traded in is done by a third party company and the price listed is not guaranteed.

There is an option when trading in that reads: "If the value of the device is lower than the estimate, send it back to me."

By any chance would anyone know why Google Fi doesn't accept trade-ins of the latest Samsung foldables? I have a Z Flip4 that I'd love to use towards lowering the price even more.

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
What if the phone is turned off when it pings.

Google is actually offering higher value for the S21 series than the s22 series for some reason
S22 ultra is under $400
S21 base model is about $400 too
I'm planning to try to sell my phone locally as it's worth more than the trade in value
And historically I've seen a ton of posts about Google trade ins going sideways and people having to fight for a long time to get their credit, if any
Myself, it's been hell to get the credits, in the end it ends up in my fi account and not my debit card. Now I can only get the s23 to monthly payments so that it is taken from the FI credits

$500 off Samsung S23, plus free storage upgrade included

Purchase a Galaxy S23 256GB phone for the price of a Galaxy S23 128GB from fi.google.com and get an additional $500 off. The $60 value of the storage upgrade is reflected in the discounted price of the 256GB phone on fi.google.com. And the added $500 discount will be automatically applied at checkout for a total of $560 off. New Google Fi customers must transfer (port-in) your number to Fi from your current carrier to be eligible.

How do I qualify for the discount?
You must be a new Fi customer. A new Fi customer is someone who has never had Fi service or someone whose last day of Fi service took place more than 180 days before making a purchase with this promotion.

To qualify for the full discount, you need to:

Purchase the device or currently be in a group plan with the purchaser.

Activate the phone on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation.

You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

Remain active and in good standing for 120 consecutive days. Pausing, changing, or suspending the account will void the promotion.

The discounted price will automatically apply during checkout. If you do not meet the conditions above, the discount will be charged to your Google Pay account to match the full price of the phone.

Any other details to know?

Offer is valid until February 16, 2023 at 11:59PM PT or while supplies last.

For individual plans, limit one per person. For group plans, limit one per group plan member.

Offer is only available to U.S. residents 18 years or older, and requires Google Pay and Google Fi accounts.

Unless otherwise stated, this offer cannot be combined with other offers.

Discount is not transferable and is not valid for cash or cash equivalent.

If Fi determines that this offer is used in connection with abuse, misuse, or fraud, or if the account used to purchase the phone is not in good standing, the discounted amount will be charged to your Google Pay account.

Void where prohibited.
