Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

For those who want to do a "real port in", what's the cheapest prepaid plan to use?

Also, do you need to be a Google Fi customer for 30 days before you can take advantage of this offer as an "existing customer"?

By any chance would anyone know why Google Fi doesn't accept trade-ins of the latest Samsung foldables? I have a Z Flip4 that I'd love to use towards lowering the price even more.
Because they're currently selling this phone with the same kind of deal.

This seems like a lot of hoofs to jump. Plus, you will be paying minimum $25/month service plus taxes approximately $30+ for four months = $120. So, 600 minus 120 = less than 480 discount you are actually getting, not 600, even less if there is activation charge and/or buying a port in number.

So, pass, will wait for Sam's to trade in S22U for similar or better deal without the hassle for port in etc. Calm down folks, Sam's will have something for you soon after this initial burst of euphoria of a new release
its 600 off + 180 for the upgraded storage + 20 with a promo so it comes out to a 800$ discount. its a good deal for a phone thats not even out.

One important note people.

For 120 days every night at 12 Fi will ping the SIM, if it is not inserted into the phone you bought you get 500$ charged back. You have to use the Fi SIM in the S23 you buy for entire duration of promo. Learned it the hard way.
Not quite true. As long as they ping the SIM and the SIM is NOT in another phone you are fine. What if your phone and SIM are intact but off for the whole period? That's why it's not the phone they ping. It's the SIM. In other words they are checking and if the the SIM not the phone and in another it voids. Basically - don't put the physical SIM in any other phone. They don't care what you do with the phone; they care you don't operate the SIM sim another device.

Just ordered one with trade-in my fold 3 512gb. They gave me 520$ for the trade-in so my total is only 80$ for a brand new S23U 512GB thanks google 😄
The S23U cost you $80 plus whatever the Fold3 could sell for.

Strange that the trade-in for S22+ 256 GB is only $190.
Nah it's a shyte android phone, it be like that. They're done getting updates after 2/3 years so pretty impossible to maintain value.

It's from signing up using someone's referral. Technically it's only for the 2nd month because you only get the credit after 30 days of service.

Google FI sold phones are Unlocked out-of-the-box, so can be used with any carrier from Day 1 (at least this was true with S22 Series and Fold4/Flip4).

To keep the discount
  1. The Google Fi SIM card should be activated on the device you purchased from Google Fi.
  2. The number should be ported and then you can remove the Google Fi SIM card and keep it in a drawer if you want to use the new device with another carrier.
  3. Ensure NOT to put the Google Fi SIM in any other device (at least for 120 days). It can go back to the same device, but not to any other devices.
  4. Keep paying for Google Fi services for 120 Days.
This is the process to use if you want to use the S23 with another carrier before the 120 days is up. Thanks for spelling it out so clearly!

Damn, didn't know that. Just knew that is has the dual SIM tray. Why tf wouldn't they enable it in software...
If a dual Sim tray exists, then there is room for card storage. Just proves the theory the removal was strictly to boost profits at customers' expense.

Potential new customer here. Does anyone know if you can do two lines and trade in two phones as well? Trying to do it now and it will only allow me to add one trade in device. They are offering $153 for our S20's and that would make the S23 $146 for each device.
