Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Just to be clear... you're technically correct in that RECORDING 4k 60fps video runs about 50gb per hour. But how may people do that?

Most people are using the memory in their phone to store pictures (at a few MB's each, given that most people don't use RAW), store short recorded videos (measured in seconds and not minutes), and download movies (as seriously compressed MP4s in most cases). 128gb is going to be sufficient for most users and 256gb is still overkill in most cases.
Anyone that actually uses their phone to record life events (birth of a child, vacation videos, etc.) 1 hour of video footage is almost nothing and will eat up storage quick even if you get the 256GB version.

512GB SD cards cost $40. "Upgrading" to higher storage tiers for these "flagship" phones costs over $200. It's a complete scam.

In my opinion these are the only 11 phones worth getting right now that has a complete feature set. (MicroSD, OIS on main camera, 3.5mm jack, 5G bands, QI charging)

Get a free Google Voice number and use it to port in. It will cost $20 during port in to transfer the number to Google Fi.
Are you sure, I thought it was $20 only if you want to port back from fi to voice at the end of the 120 days. It is $3 to unlock a Google Voice number

Yes. Plan doesn't matter.

Most of those phones are not worth getting for reasons significantly more important than any of the features you list.

Everyone has their own requirements. Agree on OIS, 5G (duh!), QI... I can live without the storage upgrade (I've been fine with 128 and just got an S22 with 256) and the 3.5mm. Rarely use wired headphones and a USB-C to digital 3.5 is under $5. Optical telephoto is on my must have list.

And, some pretty 'out there' phones on your list... Blu? 4 y/o LG's?

Fortunately it still says "5 Days Remaining" so I guess that's good. Next stop is to check if it goes to 4 days, and then if it comples. Will keep updating.
Can you let us know how long was the sim in the other phone and was it used for text, talk or data? Hopefully it wasn't there long enough to register the imei change. Good luck.

Are Google FI phones unlocked? I have a google line but I only use it when I travel. If I preorder this phone, would I be able to use it with my metroPCS eventually?

Ok do you have to port out to another service or you can port it out to google fi directly
?

I just chatted with Google Fi to check with my situation. My Mint account just ended service 6 days ago - thankfully have the account/pin information from a few years back. Google Fi CSR said it was OK if I ported account to Google Voice and then over to Google Fi for the deal when the phone ships end of month. Whether or not they are right is a separate question lol.

With the promo, the floor and ceiling is 256gb. That being said, more storage is NOT necessarily better. There is a psychology behind people putting their "eggs in one basket". Smaller storage forces you to backup your data to the cloud or on a desktop. If you don't backup often, and something happens, what good is the extra storage when your phone breaks, falls in water and IP resistance fails, or your phone is lost or stolen.

if I add my main number as esim, can I activate hotspot from esim number, and for google fi use that hotspot as wifi? Rep for useful info.
If i understand correctly, you want same phone to broadcast Wifi hotspot, and same phone to receive that Hotspot. Answer is No.

I dont see a benefit of doing this. Phone is alrady dual-sim dual active, so both your number and Fi number are active at the same time connected to cellular.

Google fi is a joke of a service. Their technology needs a lot of refinement. I will answer a call and the phone will just keep ringing and likewise when I call out. My phone breaks up frequently here in Saratoga Utah. I was previously with straight talk and never had an issue.

Can we port a number before the phone arrives? I'm looking at the ebay number route, but those numbers are only good for 2-21 days
