Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Yes once you meet the minimum days for this deal you can port it out, it is an unlocked phone
Minimum days? Where are the terms for it so I can read. I assume the S23 Ultra comes with a sim card tray so we can take it out the fi sim and replace it eventually

Did Samsung solve the sonic finger print problem? I have dry hands especially after a long flight, after flight, the finger print reader 50% is not working.

Can we port a number before the phone arrives? I'm looking at the ebay number route, but those numbers are only good for 2-21 days
Deal says it's good til 16th or supplies last - can't port until you receive the phone I believe so it's best to get a number that's good for >= 10 days on 15th if you think supplies last (assuming you get phone on 24th).

I just burnt $20 to port to Google Voice as intermediate step.

?

I just chatted with Google Fi to check with my situation. My Mint account just ended service 6 days ago - thankfully have the account/pin information from a few years back. Google Fi CSR said it was OK if I ported account to Google Voice and then over to Google Fi for the deal when the phone ships end of month. Whether or not they are right is a separate question lol.
Did you get the chat transcript just in case?

Basically what I did was to put in the SIM in the XR, place a call to wife, and take it off. Phone was connected to wifi but not mobile data. Took less than 3 minutes. I did not installl the GoogleFI app or activate anything else. I mentioned before but the S22U is back home and I am traveling until next week, so I can't put the SIM back.

I did check the stauts of promo it still says "5 Days Remaining", hasn't moved. I am refreshing every hour to check if it goes to 4 days.

But what you mentioned about the app makes sense, hopefully it was required to activate the SIM on the other phone for Google to void the promotion and not just put it for less than 3 mintues and placing a call that was not answered.
Or hopefully since you did Wi-Fi calling, it didn't register on their server.

So, I just got new gv on my Gmail account that didn't have gv. The number was accepted for the order without any "unlock" process. So, what would I need to do next when device comes in, and I am activating the service? Where do I get the password or whatever I need during activation? I don't see any option at above link that gives me any option for password or voice-mail password that I can use during activation process?

Also, can I get multiple GV numbers on same Gmail/Google account? Thanks
Here the term of promotion:
You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

Google Voice DOES NOT has data service, you are trying to save $10 to get a cheap service but risk $799 charge back from Fi by ignoring the promotion term. Good Luck

hey guys so i still don't know the answer to this. so i have one existing FI line on a pixel. i plan to stick with FI for the rest of the year. I do NOT want to open up another line. can i just simply put my pixel sim into the S23 and use the same number? would that count as an activation and keep that for the 120 days? or do they mean you have to activate a new line with the phone?

Anyone that actually uses their phone to record life events (birth of a child, vacation videos, etc.) 1 hour of video footage is almost nothing and will eat up storage quick even if you get the 256GB version.

512GB SD cards cost $40. "Upgrading" to higher storage tiers for these "flagship" phones costs over $200. It's a complete scam.

https://www.gsmarena.com/results....Cardslot=1

In my opinion these are the only 11 phones worth getting right now that has a complete feature set. (MicroSD, OIS on main camera, 3.5mm jack, 5G bands, QI charging)
You know, there is a deal through Metro right now where you can get an A14 for basically free. Maybe you should steer yourself over there. I bet that camera on the A14 doesn't consume 256 GB per hour either.

No you need to activate the sim come with the s23 Ultra by logging in your Fi account on the new s23. You will have the same number (activate the old line on the new phone)

With the promo, the floor and ceiling is 256gb. That being said, more storage is NOT necessarily better. There is a psychology behind people putting their "eggs in one basket". Smaller storage forces you to backup your data to the cloud or on a desktop. If you don't backup often, and something happens, what good is the extra storage when your phone breaks, falls in water and IP resistance fails, or your phone is lost or stolen.
A USB 3 microSD card reader will be faster than any "cloud" storage out there... Local backups in two locations will always be safer than a cloud one.

Also, most people have data limits so good luck even uploading 1 hour of 4K video into "cloud" storage on your 5G plan...

For an S23:

"You must be a new Fi customer".and "You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Numbers ported in must be from carriers that have calling, voice and data services. "

So I am thinking a Google Voice number won't work?

Going through the ordering process if you select "Get a new number" instead of "Bring a number" it says you only get the free storage upgrade.
So getting a new number is not a viable option.

I've done 5 Fi deals (4 S22s, one P7) using 4 Fi accounts. I used my GV numbers associated with each Google account without any problems. When you enter a GV number as the port-in number during ordering, there's a function to Check the number. It always came back as eligible. I didn't have to pay any unlock fees either because the account that ordered the phone also owns the GV number.
