Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Tello has a text and call only plan for $5 which you can also use. Saves you a big whopping $1.
Every little bit helps lol

Tello has been very strict about new activations lately. U can register only 2 sims per new acct, or they will deactivate ur #s. Learned the hard way.

Do you have any plan to apply for US citizenship or future US Visa? If yes, these fraudulent activities could put you on US Immigration blacklist.

I don't understand what you meant by saying you can't activate the number because you don't have a US number. Anyone can buy a prepaid time card and activate a number with a prepaid company, like Tracfone, to get a phone number for port-in to Fi.
Google would be doing a credit check on new customers anyway. Other than identity fraud, I dunno how he geta through that one.

Does anyone know if you need to port the same number as the number you're forced to enter to order? I don't really want to wait for my tello sim to arrive.

Thanks for the heads up. I really would like to go the full legal way, where can I get the prepaid US number as a non-citizen to port in?

As far as I know, Google only do a credit check if you buy the phone on installments. I've bought 5 Fi phones using my name, wife's, daughter's and Google never pulled a credit check (I have our credit files locked up).

I went to Verizon and they gave me $1,000 for my S20+ 5G to pre-order the S23 Ultra.

For prepaid, I'm only familiar with Tracfone which isn't easy to deal with. I'm sure other forum members can tell you about other prepaid companies. You can even buy a phone number on Numberbarn.com for $5 or so to port in.

Interesting. So I know everyone says here that you can just use a google voice number (have had one for years) to port over. I double checked and asked google fi online chat and this is what they said:

"I have checked the details for you and would like to inform you that porting your number from Google Voice won't qualify for the promotion terms.
You can check the details here: https://fi.google.com/about/promo...upgraders"

Any suggestions/thoughts?

Two seperate chats with Google Support state that Google Voice number is accepted for the promo. Have the transcript too. If things go south because of using Google Voice as the port we can show the transcript and sort it out?
