Does it really matter though? I assume you're going to get the $20 plan since you already have metro. Just put the fi sim away.
Oh that was someone else. I'm already on Fi using dual sim. Someone asked about using the dual sim so it's good to know they'll need to activate the secondary service via eSIM. You're right though — the best idea is to simply put Fi SIM away.

Want to port 3 lines into Google Fi. Whats the beat route to take? I heard that each line requires their own google account. I planned on ordering 3 phones under my account. Would there be issues during activation? What's the best route to take to keep the promotions on all 3 lines?

I read on this thread that people were charged $500+ for not using the Google Fi sim on the phone they buy every night? Then the wiki says you can just toss the fi sim in the drawer? What is the verdict?
I will order and leave the Fi Sim in the Galaxy S23 ultra for maybe a week, just to be on the safe side, then I will come back here to check if the trick of activating fi sim and immediately insert their old sim worked, better safe than sorry 😉

I have a Fold4 on Fi that I'm still paying off. I activated the Fold 4 with the Fi SIM inside, powered off the phone and replaced the Fi SIM with a Visible SIM. I haven't been charged anything by Fi besides the $20 monthly plan and the monthly payment for the Fold4.

The Fi SIM is sitting in my drawer as countless posters here have advised.

If you will leave the Fi SIM in the S23 for a week, then what trick are you testing?

In one of your posts, you mentioned buying TWO phones. If so, here's what I would do.
1. Use a Best Buy Fi SIM and a BYOD phone to sign up with Fi. The SIM costs $10 but you'll get $10 Fi credit with your 1st bill. The advantage is that you can chose a new Fi-assigned number, don't have to worry about port-in. Also, you can use someone's code to get $20 Fi credit, and also immediately have a code to give to your 2nd account. That's $40 Fi credit.
2. WAIT 48 HRS, then order the S23 as an existing member. When you activate the S23, service and billing of the BYOD Fi SIM will be transferred to the S23. No port-in needed.
3. Use another BB SIM and another BYOD phone, and activate the BB SIM with a new phone number, no port-in needed. Use the referral code from the 1st account to get $20 Fi credit.
4. Same as step 2.

Doing it like that, you don't have to worry about porting-in, and get a total of $60 in Fi credit. I checked and a two-line Flexible Plan costs $35/month, only $5 less than two separate Flex Plans, not much of a saving there.

Just make sure to wait at least 48 hrs after activating the BB SIM before ordering the S23.
Now THIS is Slickdeals in action. I might do this for upgrading to the S23 Ultra and just sell my current S22 Ultra separately since trade-in values have been dogshit lately. I'd be happy to get an almost free upgrade if this all works out after selling the S22 Ultra for $600 ish, to be honest.

Question - in my case I have a work SIM that I use on a BYOD device I bought for myself (S22 Ultra) . After buying the FI SIM card from say, Best Buy, and activating the new S23 Ultra, would I be good to go to then put in my existing work SIM in the phone and stuffing the FI SIM in a drawer for 120 days?

Re: Taking the Fi Sim out and leaving it "in a drawer" to use another carrier sim.

I did it this with S21. The issue is you spend the next 4 months sweating bullets wondering if Google will void the promo for some random reason. (Do a search on Google Fi Reddit for "lost promotion", "promotion voided" or similar and have your mind blown). Lots of arguing on Reddit on whether the phone has to "remain active".

Better to just use the Fi Sim plan you have, and not worry about voided promo.

You certainly can stash away the S23's Fi SIM after activating it and use another provider's SIM in the S23.

Syntax Error sounds like a programming fat-finger error. Do you work in IT?

There are plenty of people who did that without problems in the long S22 thread.

Is "48hrs" the threshold for being considered a new vs existing customer?
