Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

For 50% off without jumping through hoops? Then just pay full price the day it comes out at best buy
but that would mean walking up early and waiting in line for hours for a chance they actually have stock on hand. too many hoops. not worth.

besides was actually thinking of switching to Fi for service.

thank you. your post was so helpful to me and everyone who bothered to read it.

Until I see an explicit warning that a GV number is not eligible for port-in, I'll continue using GV for my deals. I don't want to tell others what to do and get blamed if their deals fail.
See some posts on page 87. Someone called GoogleFi support and was explicitly told that GV # porting is not allowed for this deal.
Also see my posts about using a GV # now to place the order BUT you can edit that # and replace it with a valid port # after you receive the phone BUT BEFORE you do the activation as the port transfer will be done then.

Online when I was doing the process, the terms were clear. Voice text and data must be eligible on the line being ported in.

Google voice does not support data.

So I don't know how anyone can use a Google voice number and expect to pull one over on Google. They clearly state data must be on the line.

Edit:
It seems to me that people thinking the Google voice port in is going to work while the same people that think Congress never ratified the income tax and we don't have to pay it Smilie

I am interested why many users don't just move their numbers over and use Fi for the 4 months instead of sticking the FI sim in a drawer. With taxes, for 35 GB of data, my bill is $55 a month. Paying for the lowest plan at $20 something a month for 4 months and also another phone service doesn't seem like a 'slick deal' Some reasons I can understand though- I would be interested to hear other reasons why.

1. Paranoid about losing number during port process
2. Stuck with bill credits with another provider.
3. You may use way more than 50GB a month.
4. T-mobile/Us Cellular service not good in your home area.
5. Customer service isn't great.

Some advantages of FI -

Great for international travel. Also the $65 plan includes YouTube Premium for a year. Also, for the new phone, the contract is only 4 months, so I can bounce afterwards.

Myself, moved over to FI about 5 months ago to get the s22+ for $399. I did get $625 for trading in a s21, so I haven't paid a bill yet since I moved over. I was going to likely move to another MVNO but now with this promotion, I might as well stick around and get another new phone and keep my s22+ for better trade ins later or just sell it.

TLDR - Fi isn't that bad as a provider and it might be 'slicker' just to move over for the 4 months.
I have 9 lines and home internet for $95/mo. Until Fi can beat that, there's no reason to switch.

Could you please post a screenshot of that?

As far as getting an answer from Fi support, a few days ago people tested their GV number when ordering and got "This number is eligible", but at the same time some FI reps said "Yes" and some said "No".

You can order it now, but don't activate it until your other promo is up. It most likely will show up after anyways.
Thanks for the reply. I really don't want to owe For $500 for the S22.

Is there a reason so many people don't want to use the Google fi service? Was thinking of switching from Verizon

My guess is no, it doesn't, as long as you as you change to a full service plan, but, that's only my guess, so it's best to contact customer service and ask them.
I changed from unlimited to flex without any problem. Earned promotion already for my Z Fold 4

As I posted several times in the past few days, with attached screenshots, in the past 6 months I've done 5 Fi deals (4 S22 and one P7) with port-in from my GV #. Some of those earlier didn't have that blurb about carriers with voice and data service. The later deals have that clause. Even so, I still was able to use my GV # to port in and completed the promotions.

If Fi had changes the rules in the last few days to no longer allow GV#, please post a screenshot of the message explicitly saying GV number is not eligible. Don't keep quoting that bit that GV has no data.

As my order has already been processed, I no longer have access to that page.
BUT a poster right above here confirmed this when placing his order.
Perhaps someone doing the order can get a screen shot and post it here.

As the old saying goes: Past performance does not guarantee future results!
The GV # will show as eligible when placing the order BUT what matters is what happens when you use the GV # during the ACTUAL activation.
Anyone using a GV # as the actual port # right before activation is doing so at his own peril, especially after all the warnings posted here.

But, hey, roll the wheel and bet on red or black!!!
