Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

A question for the future. How do I make sure that I pay for JUST 120 days of service. Meaning, do I have to cancel on the 121st day or can I cancel Fi during the 4th month and request it to be cancelled at the end of the 4th month? Or, do I have to pay for the 5th month too?
I would chat with them on what you think is 121st day and see what they show. I'd definitely error on side of caution. It will only cost a bunch if you are actually using phone, better to pay an extra buck to avoid losing 600 bucks

If the FI S23 phones are like the FI S22 phones, they will come with the SIM card already installed. As of today, Fi still can't support eSIM in the S22 (but the Fi S22 can use eSIM of other providers). On the other hand, the Fi Pixel 7 came with no physical SIM card, and most people activated using eSIM.

That's no longer true. Fi recently added eSIM support on many Samsung phones, including the S23 and S22 series.

It seems like nobody wants to keep Google Fi after the 120 days? Why? Is the quality of service poor?

I know I tried Fi years ago and too many calls were dropped or the data speed was rotten. I would have guessed things improved.

No dropped call for me. I actually liked the service. It's just that taxes are too high for plans and there are better options available like visible and boost.

Google "Google Fi support issues" in forums and reddit. There rarely is a happy ending that support solves, and in many cases, they make things worse. Things just seem to break with them for random reasons. Might be rare, but when it happens, you fall into a hole that seems never ending.

I can finally breath easy this morning now that the S22 $500 promo has changed to earned.

Couple weeks ago Google Fi account changed to sim not provisioned. I contacted support and they said no problem, should take less than 24 hours to correct. Count down was still working, and getting close. 48 hours later, line still not working, no number shown, support said again, no problem, they will issue new number and will work in 2 to 24 hours. 48 hours later still nothing. I tried factory erase/reset, all the #*#* codes, erase fi app data and cache, reinstall apps, still nothing. Reddit Google Fi Support Chat same story. But, clock kept on ticking down. Today time was up and it changed to earned.. Will be dropping them in 3 days when current cycle ends.

The worst thing about dealing with these guys is that you fear anything could cause you to lose the promo, then you'll need to fight for weeks or months to hope you get it. Already planned on using the S22 for T-Mobile trade in that is coming, so any delays would have caused me to cancel S23U preorder. I did the Google Fi S22 promo with the thought in mind to have a good trade in when the S23U was released ($800 trade in).

BTW, I did S22 prior deal using a Google Voice number transfer. After activating and making a few calls, kept the sim in the drawer most of the time, never inserted into a different device. All that seems to be fine, since account stayed active and promo worked, but probably should left the sim in a drawer the entire 120 days.. Leave it alone, and let the timer run down. Take screen shots of countdown and save them regularly. Good luck!

There are plenty.
Those who stay with fi just don't need to babble about it.

After you've earned the promo, you can cancel before the end of the billing cycle and get a few bucks back (eventually Big Grin).
