Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Lol are you telling me people got the s23U for $599 - $300ish TIV for iphone XR or 11?
Not sure about XR but the 11 had a trade in value of 310.

For me, I bought the base s23 for $299 + tax and traded in my iphone 11 for $310. So I pretty much swapped my iPhone 11 with the base S23 for $100 or so (service fee for 4 months).

S23 Ultra $600 + $40 Tax
4 months service = $120

So, $720 to own the phone. ( minus any trade-in). Is it worth buy now or wait for more trade-in value from Samsung later after the pre-order date?

Sounds like a very personal decision that requires research on different phones at different price points to see if it works for you.

That's correct for those who placed their orders before Feb 6th when the trade-in values got reduced significantly. The i11 had $310 trade-in value, but the XR only had $120.

I ordered a base S23 on 2/2 for $300 + $27 sales tax; I will trade in a i11 for $310 TIV, so $300 will be refunded to my cc, and $10 to my Fi credit. I have about $100 Fi credit already + $10 excess Fi credit to cover 4 months of service. Essentially, I get the base S23 by trading a refurbished i11 that I got for free, and pay $27 in sales tax on the S23.

I have been wondering the same thing, however, Samsung has priced s23U $1400, so even if they apply the same TIV they give through the carrier deals, the phone still is going to cost at least $400 plus tax. So, I decided lavender is not a bad color, and I can sell my s22U for at least $600....

Some good news on the question I posted earlier:

From Google Fi Support:
For all S23s.

The devices ordered from Fi will have Google Fi SIM card pre inserted.
However, you can also activate eSIM.
Would it be better to activate via eSim so I can put the actual SIM I want to use (Visible/US Wireless) inside? And then make a call / text then just choose to deactivate the eSim afterward? Or is this not safe?

Not safe.
Don't do it.
Activate with the physical Sim, then take it out and store it somewhere.
Don't insert the Sim in any other device/phone/tablet/etc.
Then use any other provider's Sim in the S23 and enjoy it!
After 4 months, when your Fi account shows that you've qualified, cancel the Fi service.

So if I sign up with Google Fi tonight and just bring an old phone (not porting in a number), would I be considered an existing customer who could take advantage of this deal without needing to port in a number?

You need to buy a FI sim card at places like bestbuy and activate it on a BOYD phone, some people said you have to wait 48 hours so your account fully activate, then you can purchase the Galaxy S23
