Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Do you have to stick the Hello Mobile SIM in a phone and activate it before you can port the number over to Fi?
YES!!!
Can only port out an active phone #.

Also, IF you've done port outs and port ins over the years, you should be very familiar with glitches during these porting processes.
Better to be safe than sorry, since activating the # and testing it to make sure that it's working properly as an active phone # is very easy.

IF glitches happen they must be resolved with Hello, Tello, or any other provider used, and that may take a day or two.

Anyway, you have 30 days from the date of the Google Fi S23 shipment notice to activate the S23 and its Sim that comes pre-inserted into the S23, and do the port. Plenty of time!

Can I change the plan after receiving the phone also? I ordered with simply unlimited (50.00 monthly), because I am thinking actually using the sim for 4 months... but I'm not 100% yet.
I don't know. You should contact Fi support and see what they say.

MUST not insert any other Fi Sim in the S23 for the 120 days before you qualify for the credit.

But after activating and porting in the Hello # to Google Fi, and waiting 24 hours to make sure your S23 Fi account is in order, you can take out the Fi Sim and store it somewhere but do not insert it in any other device.
Then you can use the S23 with any other Cellular Provider and enjoy it!

On the 121st day go back to your Google Fi account and make sure you're qualified for the $600/$500 credit and cancel the Google Fi account. You may want to start checking on day 119.

Pausing, changing, or suspending the account will void the promotion.

My apologies if this part has been thoroughly explained already, but I'd appreciate the extra input for peace of mind: Once I turn on the device with the Fi sim in it, install the Fi app, and activate the Fi account with the s23, how long do I need to keep the Fi sim in the s23 before safely removing it (to place in drawer) to then insert my provider's sim? Should I wait to see something specific in my Fi account or does the app confirm activation and that means it's immediately safe to remove the Fi sim and insert my provider's sim. How long of a process are we talking about? Thanks in advance.

It's been posted here that waiting 24 hours AND checking the actual Fi account is best, but glitches happen.

Is it possible to keep the Google fi sim in and add esim for data only (prepaid data only esim). There are some really cheap 90d plans for a few gigs of data. I'm always connected to wifi and the Google 10 dollar per gig deal sucks. Would that mess with the promo deal? I'm thinking use Google fi for voice and text but use data only esim for data since it's cheaper. I know s23u can do dual sim. I can't really find any other info online about others who activate Google fi sim. Remove it for 120d. Put in their sim of choice and then cancel Google fi at 121d.

How do I do it, porting the number. I made the purchase with a phone number that is not the one that going to be ported in because mentioned above said theat I can change it or decide other phone number when I get the phone. At the moment I am deciding which sim to buy, if hello or tello.
are these the steps?
I buy the sim > I get the sim > Get the phone > take out sim or not from phone? > turn on or not the phone with sim or no sim > Turn on with wifi and just turn on phone > install an app before installing or not installing the sim? > What to do in which app? >or what would be the steps.

I can only tell you that someone in the S22 thread put his S22's SIM into another phone and got a message/email from Fi saying "Don't lose your promotion. Put the Fi SIM back into its original phone" (or similar wording).

Thanks. I guess my question is what happens in that 24 hour period or what is it that I should see in my Fi account that lets me know that it's safe to remove the Fi sim and insert my provider's sim. Also, are the possible glitches you are referring to related to Hello ports? (not using a Hello number myself). I believe one post at one point mentioned making/receiving a call with the Fi sim as an indication that everything is now set and it's safe to remove the Fi sim, but couldn't find it again.

People with experience with Google Fi similar promotions strongly recommend; DON'T DO IT.
Just store the Fi Sim for the 120 days.
As Google support has often provided wrong answers.

Perhaps, someone with experience on these Fi Promos can chime in here!

Thanks for posting the deal and for everyone's contribution! Was a lot to go through the messages and wiki.

Ordered the black S23 ultra yesterday. Shipping estimate March 1-2 in CA.

My note 10+ screen is acting up and needed a replacement. Got duped on ebay when I purchased a "brand new" note 10+ this week but was instead used. So, I just decided to get a new S23U instead of dealing with the headache of buying phones random used/refurbished phones online.
