Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Welp I guess my s23 ultra is off to a buyer in el salvador, lol!
  1. Received the phone today (s23 ultra black, ordered on 2/3)
  2. Ordered and activiated a new number on Tello via esim ($6.75),
  3. esim immediately delivered via email
  4. Logged into tello account and got the port instructions which is posted online in your account page
  5. Powered on new s23 ultra, connected wifi, skipped all the setup stuff but did login google using same account tied to fi
  6. Phone prompted me to download the Google Fi app to complete activation
  7. opened app, logged in with gmail tied to google fi, choose the sim activation option, not esim
  8. google fi asked which number I wanted to use, the one i register with or port in another number
  9. porting process took 5 minutes - for tello the pin code to enter is 0000 or 00000, make sure you enter the address information and everything exactly as it is listed on your account profile info on the tello page
  10. received notification that number successsfully transferred so I did a test call and it worked.
  11. received an email from google fi about 20 minutes later confirming that I successfully activated.

Did you activate the Tello account first prior to porting out?

Edit: I just went through the same process, but I activated the Tello account on a separate phone using the esim prior to porting out.

What amfilm would you choose for S23 Ultra? I looked on Amazon but they don't have the one touch. Also they don't get many stars for the Ultra.
I previously had the S21 Ultra and the S22 Ultra. For the S21 Ultra, i bought the Amfilm UV screen protector for about $20 and it worked great with the fingerprint reader. For the S22, I bought a cheap UV screen protector from eBay, and it was horrible with the fingerprint reader. If I had the S23 Ultra, I would probably go with the Amfilm UV (link below). I obviously haven't tried it, but I would assume the quality would be the same as the S21 version.

Incipio sold a case with raised edges to protect the curved screen. Is there a case similar to one for s23U?

Don't use that film. Many are having issues with it. White dome only.

For those doing hellomobile and porting it to google fi, if it asks for pin, what do you enter?

Someone here said it is the last four digits of your telephone number.

Yes I activated on my current phone not the s23 ultra.

If it's like the S22, the 30-60-day deals won't come until near the end of the year.
Maybe Fi/BestBuy/Samsung might have a Black Friday in July sale :fingers crossed:🤞🏼

I received 1 of the 3 phones we ordered. The other two have an estimated ship date of February 28th - March 6th.

Is there any downside to going ahead and activating this one phone now and porting it's number over?

I'm worried if I wait for the others to get here, it'll be pushing it close with the 30 day registration window. So I'd prefer to register this phone now and get started using it.

Is there an option to activate a Hello or Tello number without using a phone? The only phone I have is locked to T-Mobile for a couple more months until I pay off with credits.

I think T-Mobile locked phones can be used with mvnos (prepaid carrier) that run off T-Mobile. My spouse has T-Mobile locked iPhone with a straight talk T-Mobile sim. Unsure how esim would work tho - worth a shot for only $5, or borrow a friend/family phone. You just need to activate that's all it can be removed quickly after port, probably automatically.

Didnt run into any issues setting up with the base s23, and am using it two other carriers now. Will verify the countdown after 24 hours. Battery life crushes the s22 fi i had. Like 50 percent better lmao. fingerprint is also working way more consistently
