Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Personally I have never damaged my phone so for me it probably isn't worth it. Depends on you. Also some people already have insurance from paying for their phone bill with their credit card.

Thanks to the op and everyone inputs. I read probably half of the comments and had a good idea what to expect. Purchase the Hello mobile and the Fi activation was a breeze. 118 days left. In case anyone might wonder what the page look like.

Did you use the account number on hello mobile web account and last 4 digit of phone number as pin? I tried that and Fi told me it's a Metro by T-mobile number and the pin wasn't correct
Hello Mobile has been adding Port Out Protection to their lines lately, so you'll have to call them to have it lifted. When I called, I was able to do it through an automated phone menu without needing to speak to a customer service rep.

I think so. I mean, one broken screen is like $200+ on this device.

Received my phone today also, initiated port from metro by tmobile, 2 hours went by and didn't transfer, contacted google fi by chat and they assured me everything was fine, about 1 hour after chat the transfer completed, so it took about 3 hours maybe a bit more to transfer, don't know if me contacting google fi made it work faster, but they said sometimes it could take about 24 hours to complete.
Also note, on my first try on initiating the porting, I accidentally put the wrong pin, I entered the account pin instead of the porting pin and it rejected it, I then entered the porting pin and it accepted it.

Yes i did used the account number on Hello Mobile site, and yes the pin is the last 4 number of the phone number.
However, you would have to call Hello Mobile to unlock the number transfer.
What i did was starting the portin process first with Fi. Then Fi probably said it didn't go through. I called Hello Mobile, and at that time, Hello Mobile auto-answer recognized i was trying to transfer to Fi and it asked if I want to transfer to Fi. The whole process take about an hour or less.

Okay, so with Boost Mobile being down ( and God knows when they might be up and running .. ) I reached out to Fi support ( chat ) and explained my predicament, thereby requesting them to reset my Port-in from Boost so I could re-do it with a different carrier ( Tello )

The guy was more than happy to oblige, and I verified that resetting the port-in process ( it was stuck due to an incorrect PIN and there's absolutely NO way for me to contact or reach Boost Mobile for a port out PIN, as it stands right now ) will not remove the promo from Fi. He confirmed as such ( got the chat emailed to me, just in case.. )

He reset the port-in at his end, and I re-started the process and literally within 2 minutes I was done!! Within 5 minutes, I was able to send/receive calls and data started working as well. I also logged in to Fi and saw the number has been ported and assigned to the Fi sim! ( Pheww .. )

Now, waiting for the Fi countdown to start before I remove the Fi sim altogether!

Major kudos to the Fi support team for coming thru so efficiently!!

BTW, If you have Tello.. it was the easiest port out process! I did not have to call anyone or chat with anyone. From your account, they have a "port" section that you can click on, answer a couple of questions right there, and the site spits out ALL the info you'd need in seconds!

Unlike Boost ( where you need to call and get a 6 digit Port Out PIN ), Tello doesn't have a any such requirement. They suggest leaving it blank or using either 0000 or 000000. I used 000000 and Fi took it.

I had also only signed up with them in the last 2 hrs, since Boost is all f'd up.. I'm glad I had bought a Tello sim ( as a back up ) from Amazon!
It's possible to just buy a Tello esim and get an account and phone number instantly? Can I use the IMEI of my new Samsung as a reference to do so? I also have Boost right now and can't access my account. I called the other day and got my port out pin but am nervous that it won't work if their systems are down.

After porting the hello sim to fi and activating phone. Can I use other sim card from another carrier? I am thinking in colombia, south america.
Or using another sim card in the phone might disrupt the promo?

I don't understand their system. I ordered cream days before you and estimate is still 3/2-3/8. No change since.
