Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

My account is also showing a $10 credit for the SIM purchase, so hopefully that can be used towards the first months bill.
I also got a Fi SIM kit from Best Buy (2/3) before purchasing S23 (2/6). I got $10 off first month bill ($14.32). By the time I received the phone (3/6), I was billed for 2nd month already ($24.14)...

1. Can I format or erase to factory settings the s23 ultra?
2. Do I have to install the fi app again if I format?

Got Ultra with no trade-in. Hopefully has a better signal. My Pixel 7 pro on Tmobile is killing me.
I've lost the number I was planning to port-in, and it worked with my google voice number.
Just read some comments and immediately un-paused the data, uninstalled fi app, and took out the fi Sim (although I don't think there is an issue since the monitoring page shows everything checked except the day count. (in-progress @ ttps://fi.google.com/account#credit )
I can't find time to make a switch going to do it soon, but do you guys debloat first? Is SmartSwitch capable of smoothly transferring from Pixel to Galaxy? If I do it without transfer, then some apps don't come with their databases, right?
Do you need Your Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is eligible for device protection?
Any way to add a trade-in post-factum?
What else to consider?

A reset is not required. The Fi app is only needed to activate the phone. It MIGHT report things to Fi when you're online. So why keep "Big Brother" installed? Also, someone in another S23 thread said " if you have both Fi and other SIM active, Fi app seems to be taking over and making it as primary SIM, so better to uninstall irrespective of keep Fi SIM or not".
Well according to the other guy who had problems using another sim in his phone once it was activated, the other user asked him if, "Fi app was still installed".

So it seems like you need to get rid of the Fi app before you swap sim cards?

I uninstalled the Fi app on my several Fi phones after activating them because I don't like that app. I can't say definitely that it NEEDS to be uninstalled before using another provider's SIM in it. You do what you think is right.

1. The SmartSwitch app is quite good at transferring call log, texts, files, settings, apps, etc from a non-Samsung phone to a Samsung phone. I used it to transfer everything from my Pixel 4a to my S22 last year. It's not pre-installed on a non-Samsung phone, so you'll need to install it on your Pixel. MOST apps are transferred with their related cookies/files intact, but some might have to be re-customized.
2. None that I know of.

What are the remedies Google ask you to do in the promo status? Or are they literally telling you you will be charged $600 soon?
I called them and they asked me to put the sim back to the original phone. and that started the countdown again

Thanks, then I'll use it. But contrary to your experience, I had a huge problem with that app when I was switching from my jailbroken iPhone 6 (with almost no space in it) to Android. Basically, it stopped in the middle, the iPhone never came back to life and I lost everything. Spent months redditing and talking to hackers to no avail. Had a very old ios due to untethered jailbreak and still keep the phone without restoring so one day I'll be able to gain access

I don't know if the SmartSwitch app is intended for use with a (jailbroken) iPhone. It's an Android app. Is it available on Apple App Store (or whatever it's called)?

Yes, It was running on my new Android (IIRC A71), trying to bring to it the iPhone data. You had to install it on iPhone too

You don't have to install it on iPhone now

Just connect your iOS device to Galaxy using a "USB-C to lightning" cable, Galaxy device will do the rest

Placed two S23-Ultra orders in February.
I shipped my trade-in devices on 03/07, which were both successfully delivered on 03/13.

Received email/confirmation that one trade-in has been successfully processed. Will see refund on my CC in 2 to 3 days

The other trade-in device (iPhone-11) still says "Waiting for device" in Google Fi page.

Thanks, maybe I don't remember it right; that was many years ago. It killed my iOS device, probably because there was almost no space on it. I still hope that one day I'd be able to solder extra ram on it and somehow make it to boot. So I don't have a working iOS device. I'm going to be switching from pixel 7 pro to Galaxy Ultra because, for some reason, I have connectivity issues on Tmobile network. I ask because somewhere in some debloating tread, I saw that people don't suggest using SmartSwitch.

Does it leave the original phone intact? Meaning after the transfer I'll have two phones with the same apps installed, right?

Smartswitch only copies stuff from the sending phone to the receiving phone. It does not change/delete anything on the sending phone. After the sending phone shows COMPLETE, you can disconnect the sending phone and stop the Smartswitch app on that phone, but leave the app running on the receiving phone because it'll take time to repopulate the text threads, call log, apps, etc.

Was the Pixel 7 Pro an unlocked device? Sounds like it was missing T-Mobile bands/frequencies (related to carrier aggregation)... I've personally experienced that with an unlocked Note-9 (from Hong Kong). I could be wrong but I don't think anything was wrong with your Pixel 7 Pro device.

Besides, Google Fi runs on T-Mobile also... If your home/location has terrible T-Mobile reception, doubt your new Galaxy S23 Ultra will really help. Good luck with everything though (hope I'm wrong with my assumptions)
