Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Unfortunately my Google Fi account is the same as the main Google account that I use across my phones. Will this cause a problem?

What methodology did you use to swap your sim? Did you factory reset? Or did you uninstall the app then remove the sim? Or did you first remove the sim then uninstall the app?

You don't need to Factory reset, and you don't even need to uninstall the Google Fi app (though, not a bad idea to uninstall it... just in case). For me, literally all I did was:
1.) Turn off the phone (S23 Ultra)
2.) Take out the Google Fi sim
3.) Put in my T-Mobile sim.
4.) Turned on my phone again
5.) Start surfing the web, texting, calling, etc... without a hitch.

A few days later, I awkwardly realized I didn't uninstall the Google Fi app, so I went ahead and did that to be on the safe side. My counter is still ticking down without a hitch. 97 days left.

I uninstalled the fi app, removed the Fi sim, and then factory reset, I then inserted my Cricket sim card and setup with the same gmail, also used smartswitch to transfer everything from my old phone to the S23 Ultra (messages, apps, call info, etc)

Not a problem.
Thanks for all the help and answering questions regarding this. I moved my metro to my Fi phone and it's working fine. Counter has now gone down to 117 days.

Yes that is correct for Texas, mainly due to the Texas Universal Service Fund increasing from 3.3% to 24% effective August 1, 2022.

I use the Samsung Smartswitch app. Should already be installed on the S23. Install it on your old phone if not already installed. Run it on both phones, transfer by Wifi or a USB cable. It's very good at transferring everything over (call log, texts, contacts, files, apps, settings, etc). When it says COMPLETE on the sending phone, you can stop the app on that phone but let the app run on the receiving phone because it'll need time to repopulate the texts, settings, apps, etc. The Smartswitch app works very well between two Samsung phones. Between a non-Samsung phone and a Samsung phone, it works OK.

Samsung Smart Switch app. IIRC it is already on the S23, I had to download the app to my old Moto Android. Went smooth as butter over Wi-Fi.

EDIT, sorry I missed the post just above mine.

Your taxes is correct for which ever state you live in.

For once California is a low tax state for something....

CA State 911 Tax $0.30
Telecomm Relay Systems Surcharge $0.13
California Teleconnect Fund Charge $0.09
California High Cost Fund Surcharge $0.08
California Advanced Services Fund Charge $0.12
Universal Lifeline Telephone Service Surcharge $0.54
CA 988 Surcharge $0.08
PUC Fee $0.10
Federal Universal Service Fund $2.18
Federal Regulatory Assessment Fee $0.19

Total Taxes and Fees $3.81

Putting the Fi SIM into a different phone will get you a warning "Don't lose your rebate....." and the countdown stops. If you don't put the Fi SIM back into the original phone then your promotion will go kaput.

How were you able to activate the phone without the Fi SIM in it? (The phone came with the Fi SIM preinstalled).
