Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

Putting the Fi SIM into a different phone will get you a warning "Don't lose your rebate....." and the countdown stops. If you don't put the Fi SIM back into the original phone then your promotion will go kaput.

Got it, thanks. Looking at some others here, once the countdown was at 119 days, they put their old sim card into the phone, didn't use the Fi sim and the countdown kept going.
Now I'm confused..

There is nothing confusing about it. You can remove the Fi SIM and use another provider's SIM in the Fi phone without problems. But, USING THE FI SIM IN ANOTHER PHONE will cause problems. Those two tasks are not the same.

Silly question. What are the risks and consequences of using a random address on your Fi account, apart from 911 not able to pull the correct address automatically?

One thing that comes to mind is if you need to have something shipped from Fi to you (like a replacement phone) then you won't be able to receive it. Secondly, I don't know if the address has to match the billing address of your credit card that you have on file for payments.

Thank you! Seems these are avoidable issues at least for the 1st one. For 2nd one, mine one is already different at presence. My concerns are more on any potential legal issues around.

So I opted to trade-in my phone. It's a Note 10 Plus 256 GB with cracked screen and back. They told me my trade-in value is $115. Checking on ebay, worse condition phones are selling for $135 to 170 bucks like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/39451090...7675.l2557

I am now thinking about not sending it in and instead selling it on ebay. To get as much dollar as possible. Is this a good idea? Is there a penalty for not trading in your device? I also haven't factored in how much money ebay would take from my sale tax wise but i think it would still net more a little more than the Google trade-in?

I understand. But what if I remove the sim and just leave the phone powered off for the next 119 days. That is also fine, right?

That's OK too. I used my S23 with a Tracfone SIM for about a week, then decided to save it for future use and went back to using my S22. My S23 is now back in its box, powered off, no SIM in it. Countdown continues. 95 days left.

You'll need to ask Fi support about what happens if you don't send in your trade-in.

As far as selling on Ebay, they take 13.25% of the TOTAL (item cost + sales tax + shipping cost) + $0.30. Count on getting about 85% of the item cost after their fees, plus what it costs you to ship to the buyer. I no longer sell on Ebay due to their high fees and some bad experiences with flaky buyers.

I asked Fi about not sending in the trade-in. They said, nothing will happen, because they never give me or you any upfront credit like Samsung does with their trade-in. Also if you decide to send in the trade-in after 30 days, then whatever the current trade-in value at that time will be applied.

My FedEx tracking said "Shipment exception Unable to deliver." So I contacted FedEx and they told me they received an empty box. I'm guessing someone stole it before they could hold at one of their pickup locations. Contacted Fi support and they brought it up to Shipping and Refunds specialist. Should be contacted tomorrow to know what's going to happen with my order. Unlucky i guess.
Finally getting my s23 Ultra tomorrow. Took a while but google fi support sent me a replacement. This time with UPS instead of FedEx. They're shipping it using UPS 2nd Day. Took a while but I will finally get to use my new phone instead of my iPhone X.

FYI, I've been using my old sim card in the new phone for a while, and a few days ago the Fi app on my phone offered to install a esim. My countdown is still running before and after the esim install.
