Sorry but that is not entirely true. After activating new phone sim with Google Fi, as long as you don't insert the Google Fi sim in a "different phone", you are fine. Most, like myself, simply tossed the Google Fi sim in a drawer and no problems getting the $500. Using a different carriers sim in the S22 the entire time.

FakeBro, stop spreading Fake information. This is 100% not true. In the last 3-4 months, I purchased 3 Fold4 and all were just activated on the device and now the sim is seating in the drawer, and never got a chargeback. And one device has already crossed the qualification period and the other 2 will complete their qualification window in 12-15 days.

Just an FYI on obtaining a valid cell number to port. I posted this earlier on in the thread but seems to have been overlooked by many as this is a long thread.

I ordered the five dollar per month plan on hello mobile website. It includes talk text and 500 MB data. Free sim and taxes included. The account number for porting is given to you in an email and you can see it as well by logging into your account online, no need to use their app. The porting pin is the last four digits of your phone number, I confirmed that with customer service. Hope this helps some here who need a valid phone number to port and do not want to take any risk with GV numbers as things may have changed this year.

And bonus, the five dollar hello mobile plan second month is free. No coupon code or referral required. This comes in handy just in case the delivery date keeps getting pushed back by Google Fi.

I have $20 referral credit that hasn't been used yet, any idea if I'll lose the credit if I cancel now? Could I pause service instead of canceling until the next bill comes in?
Referral credits will be gone if the account is canceled. You can pause instead of cancel. More details about cancel/pause at the beginning of the Wiki.

dang we'll NEVER see a deal like this again - one that you didnt have to go thru many hoops to get nor was it a glitch YMMV type thing.
Check out the spectrum s23 Ultra deal thread if you're curious.
People traded in junk phones for S23 base, traded that in for a S23 Ultra the very next day. Ended up being a Money Maker for a lot of people until Spectrum closed the loophole after several weeks.

Deals will keep coming as long as capitalism is around. If that wasn't the case the SlickDeals would have shut down long ago.

I saw that one, but not anywhere as easy as this one. Spectrum requires you to have their internet thus meaning it has to be available to your area as well.

Again my point was a deal on a phone at this discount so easily - yes there will always be deals, but this will be hard to match. I know the s22 ultra best buy deal was pretty sweet (fall 2022) - basically just needed to be a post paid customer and could trade a s21 ultra + $30 for s22 ultra unlocked. But we'll see - I do anticipate samsung to have a very slow fall 2023 since the new iphone will have usb-c, so look for some aggressive sales from samsung.

Service canceled
Even after you've canceled service, you may receive up to 2 more bills to close out all your charges.

Is this normal after cancelling service ?

That's normal. Since any data used is billed the following month, data used in the 4th month is billed in the 5th bill. Then the 6th bill will show your balance after the 5th bill was paid. After the 6th bill, any remaining credit (not referral credit) will be refunded to your credit card.

If you didn't use any data in the 4th month, there won't be any money due in the 5th bill, and you'll get your refund (if any) after the 5th bill.

I followed the wiki instructions and all went well. Canceled today after it went to earned on column. Yay. Uninstalled the app and removed the sim.

Thanks! It's weird they do not have this option on Android App. Anyway, I'll just use the browser version to cancel.
They do have this in the app...you have to go to manage plan.
I just did this.

Super happy with the S23Ultra...battery life is amazing 🙂

Thanks. I found the "Leave Google Fi" option. BTW, do you have to have another carrier to port out to?

After selecting "Leave Google Fi", you have two options: Let Go Your Fi Number and your service will be cancelled right then, or Transfer To Another Provider and your service will stay active until the number is actually ported out.

What about google voice number? I've porter out from GV since the original number porting wasn't working for me and CS confirmed that GV would be fine, I have the earned credit already and 2 days till the next billing cycle. Since GV->GFi is not a real porting, any way to put the number back to GV?

You probably have to call Fi for help. There used to be an option to port your Fi number back to GV but it's no longer there.

I've been using Tracfone service since 2000. I don't use my phone much, so a pay-as-you-go plan fits my needs. I did 7 Fi deals since March 2022 to last month but hardly used any Fi service during that time.

Just posting my own experience now that the 4 month period is over for me and I own the phone no strings attached. 1. I used a Google voice phone number and didn't pay anything to port it over. I created a new G voice number (since I had I originally ported my carrier number ages ago, I could still create a new one). Signed up for Google Fi with the same email address I used for the Google voice number. Google Fi made the process incredibly easy as transferring a Google voice number is baked into their new line transfer options. 2. Then I Activated the sim that came with the phone and checked that the promo timer was ticking down. Uninstalled Google Fi and threw the sim card into a drawer. Put my Verizon sim back in and that was the end of that. 3. After my calendar reminder notified me that 120 days were up, checked back on the Google Fi website and saw that the deal was fulfilled, and immediately canceled my Fi subscription and released the Google voice number. Best deal ever! Getting this phone unlocked with 512GB for under $800 including tax was worth the hassle. Thank you Slickdeals!
