This is sort of true. The general consensus is that the movies Resurrection F and Battle of Gods are higher quality animation plus they were the first new Dragonball in years.
The first 28 episodes of DB Super are re-treading the same plot but they do have some good Dragonball "filler" as well as some little pieces of story that set up the next two story arcs. The movies didn't have those.
If you're a hardcore fan, watch them all!
It gets a bit absurd even by Dragonball standards, but it's entertaining and the story draws you in. Definitely worth watching at least once.
$40 bucks for (current) digital complete series is solid. I'm more of a physical collector, but good for those who prefer digital.

Anyone who grew up on DBZ and had seen Super have an opinion on it?
Just actually watched this for the first time and finished up the other week.
Good show and filled my nostalgia up pretty well, but I will say the cadence for the series is still a bit "dragon ball z" like where it can take forever to get through some of the story, but running at a faster playback worked well for me.

It was slow for me at first watching as an adult but eventually hooked me as much as DBZ did when I was a kid. I liked it so much that I've been following the manga ever since

I liked Super soooo much more than DBZ. Stuff actually happened, instead of 5+ episodes of just talking about something that's going to happen. There is so much more action and it's far less dragged out, even though some stuff is still dragged out.
Funimation isn't letting anyone sell the original DBZ or DBZ Kai right now.
I figure it's because they're trying to grow their subscriber base, especially after buying Crunchyroll.
It'll reappear some day.
I thought Crunchyroll and Funimation merged, then Sony bought them out. It has been a while since I last looked into it, I just know both of the TV apps cause me rage issues. I dropped both subscriptions last year because cost and streaming issues never fixed. It's always my fault then told to uninstall everything reset and clear the cache.

It has some highs and lows but overall its really good. The final arc in the current anime is a lot of fun and the ones coming up based on the manga should be great too.

Honestly, as an adult, Super scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Sure the powerups are faster paced than the DBZ era but in this age of instant gratification, it actually works to keep you drawn in. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get that tingly feeling every-time someone shatters their power ceiling and just unleashes all hell.

You would think nothing could ever rival DBZ, until you see Super.
