Sounds like user error and inexperience. Do yourself a favor and look up Smoking Dad BBQ on YouTube and get some exposure to the intricacies of kamado grilling. My gut says you'll change your tune once you have a better feel for how to use it.
I thought this was normal price. They went on clearance for ~$500 last fall.

In-store vs online pricing for large/heavy items can vary drastically, they build the shipping costs into the price. Even the lighter pellet smokers will be $100-$200 more online. It's an option for people who don't have a vehicle to transport such a large item. These were $799 in my local store in season as well, you'd have to be pretty lucky to catch a x.97 or x.00 in most heavy trafficked stores for a ceramic grill like this since they never seem to stock many to begin with.

The Masterbilt Gravity are absolute trash from a maintenance perspective. Cheap electronics, fans, etc. make for a hellish experience. If they get this figured out, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. I love the functionality when it's not broken due to one of it's switches, fan, or damper failure. Kamado quality but way less headache if it were reliable.

Was it the classic II for $500? I only remember the classic I getting that low. I bought a C2 @ 800 awhile back and love it. Fit a 16lb turkey in it for thanksgiving and it was by far the best turkey ive had.

Interesting. I've had mine for a year and cooked a wide range of things and never had an issue. I love its set it and forget it nature to smoking. What usually goes wrong?

Man, It would fail to start, damper stuck, fan wouldn't roll, had to plug and unplug 3 times to get it to actually start without error, and the switches wouldn't register sometimes that a door has been closed so it wouldn't run. That was in the first 2 weeks. It did smoke some amazing meat, every big as good as my KJs with a lot less hassle when it did (rarely) start and run without a hitch. I'm not alone based on the reviews. The switches and wiring could do with some upgrades in the next rev. I'll see how they improve on the design going forward, I really like the design and results. I've got enough to maintain without more, which is why I love the Kamado, near zero maintenance beyond replacing gaskets and cleaning out ash.

Note that this is the Classic II model with the air-life hinge. This is a great price especially with shipping included. This is normally listed around $1200. I highly recommend this Kamado if you are a grilling/smoking enthusiast. I have had mine since 2019. The build quality is excellent. Customer service is great also if you have any issues. One of the heat deflecting ceramic plates eventually cracked and broke just from natural heat and cooling expansion. I e-mailed them a picture and they sent me a brand new part.

The Classic I model periodically goes on sale for $500 but it has an older style hinge. That is not too bad but I recommend this version.

Classic III is $1,999.
Most would love the latest and greatest but that's a big jump in price.

Bought the equivalent model new in 2010, paid $399.97 in warehouse. Slick deal effect.

Finally opened the box this past June and assembled (man, it was heavy) - it cooks ok, I guess. Wish it would get hotter- don't believe the hype. People used to act like you could just use a tiny amount of charcoal, not at all the case in my experience, I used lump and definitely you need to load that basket. Honestly no better than a Weber kettle imo- flame away!
