Regarding auto-activation / autopay - if you ported in a number, you are probably safe.
If you chose to get a new number, then your service will activate automatically and you will need to chat/call to cancel autopay. (It seems like chat is easier than calling)

Note that one has a 3rd party battery, as I got the warning, and the other has battery health of 83%. I'm guessing they replace the battery if health is less than 80%.
I don't think there was a color option; both phones I got are black.
I set up both phones on wi-fi before inserting a sim card and checked the sim status in the settings. Then I inserted a non-Boost sim to test. I tested with Cricket and Mint sims and both worked fine.
The bodies of each had minor scuffs and scratches, with the screens in very good condition. Screens also appeared to be original, as the "true tone" option is available on both. Face ID worked fine on both as well.
They came in plain white boxes with a Boost sticker on top and had an OEM usb-a lightning cable with a generic charging brick. (if it's not an OEM cable, it sure looks and feels like one)
$100 is a killer deal for a used, unlocked iPhone Xr, and this one includes 3 months of coverage.

Anyways, chat was useless. I called in. Due to the wait i selected the 'call me back' feature and that worked well. On chat they took 30 mins gathering unnecessary info and then did cancel the order.
My order had no phone so its a bit different but worst case you can reject delivery OR return the order. Finally, do a chargeback on Paypal and if that doesnt work on your CC..
You have quite a few options..
I had exactly same experience as yours. Phone stayed in shopping cart but order completed with $40 plan and BYOD sim kit for $41. Chatted and they would not cancel orders. Called 833-502-6678 but since I am not boost customer and it redirected to another line and the person said he can not cancel this order, and told me to call back to that 833 number again. How did you answer the robot question if you are boost customer?

Yes it's older tech. There are plenty of uses for it especially at the even more discounted price.
The call bac i got was of some other network or service (no idea)... but after he took (steal) all my information he tells me i will now have to transfer you to Boost customer care as he cannot do anything.. So anyways - the second rep did the same thing and then said she has to transfer me again as well since she cant actually cancel a order. This second rep set up an account pin for me (4 digit).. The third rep again took all my information - address, paypal address, amount, time or order etc etc.. it was painful.. but in the end processed the cancellation and gave me a confirmation no. She said i will receive a email which i did not. But got a email saying my auto pay was cancelled and another said my plan was cancelled. Anyways as a said, today i got a refund on paypal.
As to what i selected -- i did technical support. their voice prompt is horrible. It keeps asking you for your 10-digit phone number - which we dont have - but what you need to do is keep pressing # which after 3-4 tries will lead you to a customer rep.. Here you can just select a call back if you dont want to hold.
all the best
See my other post on how to call and what to expect.
"The promo actually exists but the thing is there's a malfunction in the website's system and charged you that amount."
Also saying: "I'm very sorry to keep you waiting. I exhausted all my resources here and I still can't find how can I apply it. There's no way for us to cancel the service as well since the order is already placed."
I've opened a dispute with paypal, but this was a rough customer service experience overall.
