It's essentially turbo tax deluxe, premiere and 'home and business' for free or $14.99 (per state)
if you made over $73k. Either way federal is free.

Why pay anything to file State? There are options on the IRS website that offer both Federal AND State for free. No one who makes less than 50 or 60k should have to pay to file their taxes electronically today.

Used my credit karma or something which cash app bought out. Been free for years, though they don't have all forms I believe. Moved and did partial resident last year on state tax site. Still filed federal through cash app taxes.

I agree, it's all a scam to keep the tax prep business alive. It should be totally free for everyone who makes less than 150k a year. If you make more than that, you can afford to pay an accountant to do it since those taxes are gonna be more complicated anyway, at least until they fix the horrible system...if they ever do. But since many people are unaware about these free filing options, we need to get the word out. There is NO REASON to waste money to electronically file your return if you make less than 60k or 70k. Go to the IRS website. Pick the company that offers totally free State and Federal filing. Boom, you are done. Eventually everyone will get the word. Happy New Year!

Beware that these "free" efile sites often plant undisclosed obstacles to get you to pay at the end. For examples:
-HSA
-1099-INT exceeds a certain amount ($1500 for Turbotax)
-1099-MISC (H&R Block, so basically disqualifies most Californians)
-UI

So making less than 73K doesn't necessarily mean you can get free efiles. Many would reluctantly pay for the time/effort invested and don't want to take a chance on other free efiles vendors.
