100amp is good for light sheet metal. But stick welding on light sheet metal is a real challenge. I wouldn't try that. And I've been welding over 60 years. Currently own three oy-acetylene rigs, two MIGs, three sticks.

I don't have this model but a much more fully featured YesWelder model and it's a quality welder. That said, I bought it during a "limited-time" Black Friday sale two years ago that as far as I can tell has been running perpetually ever since; only the holiday or other occasion has changed. This is most likely a paid placement like many so-called deals here, so nothing to panic-buy your way into. It'll almost certainly be this same price tomorrow and next week and on the 4th of July and on Frodo's birthday and....

This is the regular everyday price, just search amazon/ebay.
Got one a while back, its small, not much bigger than a loaf of bread but it welds.

I've accidentally set an Li-Po battery pack (for RC cars) on fire at home, and that thing burnt so fast I didn't have time to react. I was lucky that it didn't set anything else on fire.

Thanks, good advice, and I'll keep the soldering iron away from LiOn.

This comment is nuts.

80 - 100 amps is sufficient for 3/32" diameter 7018 rod. Do yourself a favor and get 7018. It welds so smoothly. 3/32" rod will be fine for hobby use. You're not building a bridge. You can always do multiple passes for thicker material.

MIG welding is probably the best and most versatile for newbies. You'll need a bottle lease, though (C25, argon + carbon dioxide). You can do flux core without gas, but it will have more spatter.

Stick welding is (relatively) old, simple, cheap, and can be performed in most environments. If you try to MIG weld outdoors on a breezy day, you'll find that your shielding gas blows away and your welds are terrible.

But this happens all the time where someone looks at the price and goes "this is too low, it must be sh*t" without knowing anything about the actual product. If you have experience with the product, great let us know good or bad it doesn't matter. If you don't have experience with the specific product but have general knowledge with the type of products and you see issues then also great let us know (for example you see a cell phone deal and it doesn't offer frequency for major carriers, you see a soldiering iron that is claiming unreasonable temperatures, etc). This will weld at least up to 1/8 inch not problem and probably even 1/4 inch. I think I've watched just about every cheap Amazon-stick and mig welder reviews on youtube and they all seem to do the job and do it pretty well.
