Interesting inside knowledge. I don't think the builders putting up lots of houses are worried about the quality of the wood beyond it's ability to stay in place long enough to sell the house. It's quantity over quality.
Strap it in good with the back door opened only enough for the wood. The door should be strapped too. Stick a red bag/flag at the end of the wood that is sticking out of the back. Everything should be strapped securely and stick to small roads.
Or just rent their trucks….
Oh but there are standards and inspections for which contractors are required to submit species and quality, hence the stamp on them.
Lumber yard and big box stores get the same quality. Lumber yards get more volume, say regular lumber, parallam PSL, glulam, tji, lvl, etc. as contractors buy in volume that they cannot get at big box stores which will cost significantly more.
2x4's are okay for exterior walls as long as theyre braced and blocked with simpson ties. Then you clad the exterior.
But exterior walls need to be designed differently. Say you have some lvls carrying loads and have steel headers on 3.5" stl posts or have a long span of a w10 or w12 with stl posts down to the foundation its okay. You gotta design it accordingly.

Rant over.
You can actually just put in your order online or through the app and drive right in to the back with the receipt you don't have to go into the store at all. Helps gauge prices ahead of time so there are no surprises.
Rant over.
2' x 4' x 8' Construction/Framing Lumber
they sure are not 2 feet by 4 feet by 8 feet!
its 2" x 4" x 8'... the marker ' is for feet, and " is for inches (at least in the US)
It all depends on the amount/severity of the defects.
Hold each piece up (or one end) at eye level and sight down the entire length of the narrow edge to check the amount of any bows or twists in that piece of lumber. Turn it 90° on edge and give a quick sight down the entire 4" side to further check twisting, as well. Extremely rare for it all to be perfectly straight, but viewing it gives you an idea of the severity of twists/bows and whether it it within reason and acceptable.
Naturally any framed wall that's intended to have drywall nailed to it needs to have relatively straight studs without (especially) outward/inward bows or significant twists.
Framed walls not intended for drywall (some garages, sheds, etc) are less critical for lumber straightness.
Gone are the days of 'quality' kiln dried low moisture slow-growth SYP (Southern Yellow Pine). Now they use an assortment of fast growth 'whitewoods' (spruce, fir, & pine) which are night and day different than the old-school quality SYP that was amply kiln dried.
Normally (most states) you pay sales tax on the pre-discounted price, so it makes sense that you don't pay sales tax on the portion that is covered by the rebate in a subsequent transaction. So you don't really save any sales tax, it's a wash.
