Just noticed that BestBuy matched the recent price-drop at Walmart on both models:
$20 HD model at BestBuy:

$40 4K model at BestBuy:

$40 4K model at Walmart:

I'm not sure how much this is a SlickDeal, and maybe just new price... so this is more of just an FYI or heads-up than anything.
FWIW, I think the current 'sale' prices are the right/correct price for these.
I've been CCwGTV since the beginning (so I paid
a lot more for my 4k model back then, lol), and while it's still my favorite streaming device (I have all the major ones but AppleTV) the only thing that kills it for me is the crap (read: lack of) storage... although this is usually glossed over by actual fanboys/fangirls, who push back (correctly and truthfully) that you can overcome the storage limitation by rigging up a Rube Goldberg device of a USB hub and a tangle of additional cords/cables.
I would pay more for a model with more/additional 'on-board' storage, but... I'm also not sure that
enough people would to make it profitable for Google to do so.
If you do decide to go CCwGTV (either HD or 4K), the Reddit sub is very helpful:

If you're a gamer, these
used to be a little more useful (until the recent closure of Google Stadia), but I still use my CCwGTV device to stream+play via nVidia GeForce Now (GFN) when I'm traveling.

However keep in mind that if you use it for this purpose, ethernet is going to be your best bet. And to get ethernet on this, it takes a USB C hub WITH ethernet and WITH 20+ watt pass through charging.
This will smooth out all your streaming and casting, but it does create something of a mess behind the TV.
4x ARM Cortex-A35 @ 1.2 GHz. 4K is faster, but that's not the whole picture. The HD's processor is newer and has AV1 codec support, which is more efficient than H265.

obviously we don't have a time machine but just saying this $40 price point for 2+ year old technology makes no sense

Hook to my TV and it is very laggy. Interface is slow.
I also want to try Chromecast web browser. BUT it seems like nobody wants to support a web browser on the TV! Why?
I return the thing & went back to Roku.
I am using Google TV to sideload chrome, edge , Opera browser, all are working perfectly on the Google TV
mind=blown
Came to make the same comment... unfortunately these can't be found in store any more😞

Yes, it could be rare nowadays, no new stocks coming in. Yesterday I tried to catch some $6 2k version, I went my area 7 Walmart stores, 3 of them had 1 or more 4k version and 1 of the store had 2 2k version. BS is useless to get inventory nowadays 😝
