Just noticed that BestBuy matched the recent price-drop at Walmart on both models:

$20 HD model at BestBuy:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/chro...Id=6517336

$40 4K model at BestBuy:
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/chro...Id=6425976

$20 HD model at Walmart:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Chrome.../313510979

$40 4K model at Walmart:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Chrome.../403830906

I'm not sure how much this is a SlickDeal, and maybe just new price... so this is more of just an FYI or heads-up than anything.

FWIW, I think the current 'sale' prices are the right/correct price for these.

I've been CCwGTV since the beginning (so I paid a lot more for my 4k model back then, lol), and while it's still my favorite streaming device (I have all the major ones but AppleTV) the only thing that kills it for me is the crap (read: lack of) storage... although this is usually glossed over by actual fanboys/fangirls, who push back (correctly and truthfully) that you can overcome the storage limitation by rigging up a Rube Goldberg device of a USB hub and a tangle of additional cords/cables.

I would pay more for a model with more/additional 'on-board' storage, but... I'm also not sure that enough people would to make it profitable for Google to do so.

If you do decide to go CCwGTV (either HD or 4K), the Reddit sub is very helpful:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CCwGTV/ [reddit.com]

If you're a gamer, these used to be a little more useful (until the recent closure of Google Stadia), but I still use my CCwGTV device to stream+play via nVidia GeForce Now (GFN) when I'm traveling.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

$40 was the release price for the 4k version.

Edit: To those who don't believe me. https://imgur.com/a/e9XaDjQ
I have these on the TVs mainly for mirroring the Quest 2 so everyone can play along with Among Us VR.

However keep in mind that if you use it for this purpose, ethernet is going to be your best bet. And to get ethernet on this, it takes a USB C hub WITH ethernet and WITH 20+ watt pass through charging.

This will smooth out all your streaming and casting, but it does create something of a mess behind the TV.
The processors are different. 4K runs 4x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 1.91 GHz and HD runs
4x ARM Cortex-A35 @ 1.2 GHz. 4K is faster, but that's not the whole picture. The HD's processor is newer and has AV1 codec support, which is more efficient than H265.

4k is over 2 years old. Will there be an upgraded model 2023? Saw some news about new model with doubled storage being developed.

obviously we don't have a time machine but just saying this $40 price point for 2+ year old technology makes no sense
you can say the same about the Amazon $40 4k firestick? Maybe we are too used to upgrading phones annually but I rather see a lower price point than a higher priced new model with marginal improvements.

anyone that has used both know why someone would choose a chromecast over a roku? I've been pretty satisfied with the roku experience across my TV's and even the Samsung Tizen but the one time I played with a chromecast it was annoying to only use my phone.

The Funko Pop 4k Chromecast at Walmart for $30 is a better deal if anyone can find one.

This is the new version that includes a remote and has a user interface on your TV screen. (Not just casting from your phone.) Like a Roku but the screens are laid out differently. I have both (been a Roku user for close to 10 years) and now prefer the CC interface. I do like the Roku remote better though.

Here is what the screens look like

I switched my 3 Rokus to Chromecast TVs. They both get the job done just fine. The only reason I changed them over was because I got them during the Netflix deal. I do like the Chromecast remote a little better and they're a wee bit snappier.

2 years ago, I have this thing.

Hook to my TV and it is very laggy. Interface is slow.

I also want to try Chromecast web browser. BUT it seems like nobody wants to support a web browser on the TV! Why?

I return the thing & went back to Roku.
Why not ?
I am using Google TV to sideload chrome, edge , Opera browser, all are working perfectly on the Google TV

It's ok if you only stream but no Kodi, no VLC on Roku.

Yes, it could be rare nowadays, no new stocks coming in. Yesterday I tried to catch some $6 2k version, I went my area 7 Walmart stores, 3 of them had 1 or more 4k version and 1 of the store had 2 2k version. BS is useless to get inventory nowadays 😝
