Notably, not nearly as many people root anymore, and the ability to unlock the bootloader is not something that matters if you're not planning to root.
Google at first gave users push back when trying to get warranty repair or replacement, but has now recognized that it is not the user's fault and is quick to rectify the issue.

When I was over at the google store site they somewhere had a set of choices for which carrier you wanted to buy for e.g. a pixel 6a and then some other page had tech specs on the various model numbers which were actually different according to the carrier selected e.g. verizon, google fi, etc.
And looking at the tech specs one could see there were actually some hardware / firmware level differences e.g. the verizon usa oriented model supported some couple of uwb 5g bands and a couple other differences than the model then sell you if you pick "google fi" as a carriet or some such other option in the us.
I have no idea if that's the same on the p7 but I suppose it could be.
And those are all for "unlocked" phones (p6a in my example) so in theory yeah you COULD use the various models with various carriers if the carriers let you but there may be some defaults / branding / firmware / hw support configurations that could "always" be different depending on which actual model configuration phone you initially buy.
And then of course for locking and SIM derived configurations for handsets in general and installed carrier apps carriers further "customize" / break people's phones and make them not really the same even though they may eventually be unlocked and somewhat usable on other carriers some differences might be unavoidable to change after purchase. Also same sort of thing buying a model for some region like UK you may get different stuff than the US model and never can quite have the same functionality even if you put the US SIM in there and go to the US.
