I love Milwaukee, but I wonder why on earth they make these bit holders so damn tight that you basically have to remove them with pliers.

Exactly, I got two of these I hate the things, you end up using your choice bits and then you got to box full of junk that doesn't even want to let you use the junk

any recommendation for a larger assortment of bits from a good factory? I had one box (210 pcs) from cobalt and Lowes has stopped selling these.

Buy the DeWalt bit sets when they go on sale and keep the cases to put your Milwaukee bits in. The DeWalt ones allow a 45 degree angling of the bit before pulling out which reduces the friction by 1/2. I got tired of carrying pliers in the bit kits and can't understand if DeWalt has a patent on the design or if Milwaukee doesn't realize just how bad the problem is.

Same - I asked Milwaukee what they could do for me since the case is essentially defective and they said: "it's more like a bad design than broken" and suggested I buy another case for the bits
