This. Seriously folks, it's the American execs and MBAs who are determining what quality is acceptable. Chinese manufacturers have a contract to deliver X parts to spec (including quality) for Y cost. If failure rate is too low and margins can be increased while only slightly increasing failure rate, then some exec will get their bonus. Why? because the shareholders — mostly Americans — demand it. Stop blaming China for American decisions. Yes, there are manufacturers that will try and cheap out and hope the brand doesn't notice, but then they've breeched contract and have consequences. Sad truth is that the American brands simply don't care as long as the folks running it are meeting performance targets and getting their bonuses.

Fwiw, iPhones are made in China… again, components manufactured and assembled to specific specs at a specific failure rates. You don't see too many people complaining that iPhones are trash b/c they're made in China, but those same "China makes crap" folks are the ones calling Apple customers "Sheeple falling for expensive marketing."

The made in America (or Germany, Japan, etc) stuff is still there, but no one wants to pay $150-$300 for tool when they can get something that 90% of the quality for 10% the price. Again, American consumer decisions drive this.

It states in the OP:

Nowhere does it say "assembled from global components." It specifically uses the word "manufactured." So, let me ask you - where are you getting your information that Crescent/Wiss is now procuring ALL of the parts for this "made in America" product from China? If you have specific evidence, then please provide it.

Perfect timing, my current snips finally semi-broke. Was tempted to get a straight and a right but I don't need more tools I only use every few years around, so just got a straight. Thank you!

I've used my ~$3 ones from Harbor Freight for years, no issues.

These used to be the best aviation snips money could buy, my last pair the lock- holder, always gets in the way, - inhibits me from cutting., like the redesigned it for one handed operation, but you always need two hands to keep moving the lock back., said to myself- I'd never buy another pair of weiss

They definitely went down in quality. I had to remove that lock, so annoying.

I think that's fair - these cut well and have lasted me a very long time; cutting through mesh wire, fencing, and duct work. But yeah, that lock definitely engages way too often.

Can these be used to cut through metal credit cards? Amex and chase make them heavy credit cards.

These are not your father's made in the USA Wiss or Crescent tools. They are assembled in the US from global components from China apparently. Many recent comments on Amazon about poor quality and failures. You would do far better to go to a garage sale or pawn shop and buy older American mades for $5. Apex company makes almost everything in China now. Old American brands of tools are mostly made in China now. They would be good if they were made in Taiwan.
