There have been a boatload of deals on Zinus recently, probably because of the fiberglass issue and the class action lawsuits. Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

I understand silica or fiberglass is the industry standard as flame retardant required by gov. Some use silica or fiberglass.

While fiberglass and silica can often confuse one another, they're distinctively different materials. Silica is almost completely made of silica sand, with very few other compounds present. Fiberglass uses about 65% silica, and other compounds make up the rest.

It seems everyone is now starting to use Fire Resistant Socks (FR Socks). FR Socks are the synthetic material that encases the inner core of foam mattresses. Its purpose is to offer an additional layer of protection and slow the combustion of a mattress.

Basically, if you purchase a mattress 2021 and older, chances you have silica or fiberglass! So do not open it. Remove and wash the skin cover of your mattress! They are not washable!

I hope my googling helps!

Zinus has fiberglass.....some others might too. But it is pretty clear that it isn't safe.

And yes, of course don't open it.
Also, don't leave your keys in your car outside on purpose nor should you leave your front door open intentionally, lol.
The point is that the cover can be compromised without you realizing it at some point in its lifetime.

Again....you have to actually *read* the following:

The point of my comment is about the mattress for that was posted and that there is a reason that there is a boatload of deals on Zinus, who still uses it. Saying that a bunch of other mattresses could have the same problem kind of distracts from that message.

It's not any different. Why would you think that?

same here..I bought a Sam's members mark mattress about a year ago....great at first but having back pain every morning now...scared to get another one of these beds in a box
Don't.

Been there done that. This response is gold so listen;

There is a guy or two on Amazon selling latex toppers. 3" firm or 3" medium density latex topper will go on your current bed.

10+ years of SD'ing here about mattresses.

Stop buying memory shtfoam. I am not affiliated but you'd pay me money once you get there.

Go for latex topper , around $300 on amazon, just use your old mattress as base and latex topper on top.

I'd stay away from any of them with fiberglass. They should and probably will ban any made with fiberglass as a fire retardant. Serious health consequences!!

So sad they don't have a cal-king.
Smaller than a standard king in width- people think it's the biggest, it is not

I was always told you're not supposed to use a box spring with memory foam mattress? They're for coil or hybrid. The slats are best for foam mattresses. 🧐

Yep. In fact a California King is actually slightly smaller in total area.

King = 80x76 = 6080 sq in

Cal King = 84x72 = 6048 sq in.

We just needed a new mattress for our two year old's move to a regular bed. It was difficult to even get information, much less find a fiberglass-free foam mattress unless you wanted to spend a lot of money. I even came across manufacturers who advertised fiberglass free mattresses but then admitted to using a fiberglass sock as a fire retardant.
