I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

Thanks for the update. So it sounds like you were able to get the deal and are just waiting for the port-in to finish so that you can use your new phone?
That is correct, I'll go in the store today and see if I can resolve it and update here. On a side note, I know there are a lot of horror stories about metro stores, but the representative where I went was extremely patient with me (like I spent an hour trying to persuade her that google voice is not sus Big Grin). Some tips:
1. First ask if they have any iPhone 11 in stock.
2. if you just made a google voice number for this promotion, make sure you set up your voicemail under settings(Whatever you set as the pin will become the pin for the port-in, and your phone number is the account number)
3. My representative told me that she's uncomfortable with doing the port in after I gave her the above information since the account and pin for google voice is different from what they usually encounter. Just ask them to call their own help line, and they will be assured there that Metro do accept port-ins from Google Voice.
4. Don't use Google voice(my mistake), there won't be any promotions for the port-in.

Thanks for your detailed reply! I'm confused about #4 - what do you mean by don't use Google Voice? Aren't you porting in from Google Voice?

I've been watching those for weeks, but haven't seen them come back in stock yet. Would be a better deal, but not sure if they're going to restock them or not.

My store in Winterhaven Florida said they have them but it's $160 activation and tax
Is that a corporate store, or a dealer?

how do you get a new google number and who do you call to pay the $3 to unlock it for port ? Just make a new gmail account per number ?
Who ya gonna call? G-Buster!

There's no need to call.

Yes, create one Google account (can use your existing non-Gmail if you don't care for Gmail). Chances are you will need a non-VoIP number to verify the account creation.

Once a Google account has been successfully created, visit voice.google.com to be prompted to choose a number. GV will show the initial list for the ZIP code that's probably based on IP address of the connection. Enter 3 or more digits to search for a # that may be better (e.g., perhaps more memorable based on what phonespell.com shows if keeping the number for a long time).

Port your Google Voice number - Google Voice Help [google.com] shows the steps to unlock the GV # for $3. Unlocking needs to be done before starting/requesting the porting process by/from the new carrier (for this deal, Metro).

How do I get or set my google voice pin - Google Voice Community [google.com] shows how to set up or change your PIN (by enabling "Call to listen"). This is the PIN that will be requested by the new carrier along with the account # (which is the GV #) to start the porting process.

Once ported out of GV (which can take hours, usually more than 24 hours), voice.google.com will prompt you again to select a new #. If there's no need for more than 1 GV # at a time, there's no need to create multiple Google accounts.

Can this deal be used with a Google Voice number port in?

Update: Never mind. I just read the posts before mine. Sorry.

When I created a new google account and went to voice.google.com to choose a new google voice number - they required an actual number before offering a google voice number. It used to be where they didn't require any real number before giving out a free google voice number, but that changed years ago, now an actual number is needed before being able to get a google voice number, at least this is what I know from the last time I tried which was a few months ago.

Let them know you need account # and PIN to port out of Boost Mobile. FWIR, the account # is also found through the Boost Mobile account. The port-out PIN, however, can only be acquired by calling them, AFAIK. Usually takes just a few minutes to get connected to an agent on the line and to get the port-out info.

The agent will ask for and call the Boost Mobile # to port out. If the call to speak with the agent is through the device for that Boost Mobile #, the agent can/will still call that #. Simply pick up the incoming call; the same agent will then provide the info needed to port out.
