I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

When I created a new google account and went to voice.google.com to choose a new google voice number - they required an actual number before offering a google voice number. It used to be where they didn't require any real number before giving out a free google voice number, but that changed years ago.
That's what my mention of "Chances are you will need a non-VoIP number to verify the account creation." was referring to. IIRC, there used to be different URLs from which one can create a Google account where at least one did not require verification.

As for the # to link to GV (to forward calls to), I recall having been able to use any number I had, including VoIP.

Used to also be the case that one non-VoIP # can be used to verify more than 1 (up to 3?) Google accounts in a short period. Haven't created new Google accounts in a while but seem to recall they changed that, too, even if the non-VoIP # is immediately unlinked from newly-acquired GV #. I've not looked into how long before the same non-VoIP # can be reused for Google verification, i.e., how long Google keeps such verification #s around. Would appreciate info from folks with recent experience around this.

Let them know you need account # and PIN to port out of Boost Mobile. FWIR, the account # is also found through the Boost Mobile account. The port-out PIN, however, can only be acquired by calling them, AFAIK. Usually takes just a few minutes to get connected to an agent on the line and to get the port-out info.

The agent will ask for and call the Boost Mobile # to port out. If the call to speak with the agent is through the device for that Boost Mobile #, the agent can/will still call that #. Simply pick up the incoming call; the same agent will then provide the info needed to port out.
so i need to put that sim in a phone then instead of having it preactivated in the envelope

Yeah you mentioned about the non voip number that it might be needed to verify the new google account creation but not about it{non voip} being needed also to get a new google number, so I just added it so that person could see it, like I mentioned, it used to be when it was easy to get a new google number without any voip number being needed, but they changed their policies a while ago.
With all privacy issues going on, personalized ads, scam texts, scam calls, some people prefer not to link any of their non-voip numbers to any social sites.

The Boost Mobile agent will need to call that Boost Mobile #, probably to ensure the SIM card is in possession.

I've been watching those for weeks, but haven't seen them come back in stock yet. Would be a better deal, but not sure if they're going to restock them or not.
Must have sold out. It was available when I posted this morning

I'm curious if you tried the corporate store at 4069 S Maryland Pkwy and got the runaround?
I have not. DIdnt even think they were still in business there. I thought that metro was closing down all corp stores.

Any specific stores you can recommend that has them in stock that I might be able to get the same deal you did? Also note I am using Boost numbers from ebay to port in. One store told me that does make a difference

Possibly available at authorized retailers too? Or corporate stores only?

Have an authorized Metro store here but no corporate stores within 200 miles… would love an 11 to tide me over until the better iPhone deals drop later in the year.
You can wait until Tracfone has a reconditioned iPhone 11 for a $169+$15 plan. Tracfone unlock policy is 60 days

Yeah, that seems to vary by state. Some end up paying only tax on the discounted price, but some end up paying based on the retail value, which can be pretty pricey. The whole tax thing can get complicated kind of like with taxes charged on shipping (except a much bigger amount at stake).

Ok, anyone successfully ported a number from numberbarn? They seem cheaper than boost resellers
