I paid only one month of service, and let it sit in the box. It's automatically unlocked 180 days later.

Am I the only one terrified of going into a metro store. Have read so many horror stories of mangers making up their own rules (requiring insurance, buying cases, requiring 3 months of service)

check out this thread, looks like several boost stores have iphone 11 renewed for 39.99 + Tax, Boost unlocks in 60 days and i feel it might be a better deal than Metro.

https://slickdeals.net/f/16423381-iphone-xr-renewed-3-month-pre-paid-boost-mobile-unlimited-plan-100-free-shipping?v=1&p=161691256&posted=1&comment=success#post161691256
That thread is for the renewed iPhone xr with 3 months of service, there are just a few comments in the last few pages saying that some but not all boost stores have that renewed iPhone 11 for $40.

I just visited a Metro corp store and successfully ported-in a Google Voice number. It was very painless. The big surprise was that there was no tax on the phone, so I only ended up paying $80.08 ($60 service fee + $20 device activation fee + $0.08 "regulatory fee recovery on activation"). Yes, I know this is set by the state but it's not what I was expecting as I live in CA. The other surprise was that my GV number had finished porting over before I had even gotten home!

I have read about the horrible experiences with Metro stores that some of you have shared here, but this is not what I experienced at all. The guys at the store that I visited were super nice and not pushy about the upsells. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the store will be closing in a month but it was a very pleasant experience.

Anyways, thanks to those of you who have provided help and advice, and good luck to those of you still trying to get this deal!
Great price for a brand new iPhone 11, if only all metro by tmobile stores were the same as where you bought your iPhone 11.

Thought I'd add my experience.

2 Days ago I successfully purchased an iPhone 11 at a Corporate Metro by T-Mobile store by porting a GV number (NH). They said they had plenty in stock and could do 2 per address provided. The employee seemed fine with everything as long as it went through the system. He didn't try to upsell me anything, but did attach insurance without telling me, which I had him remove. I paid $82.39 OTD.

I need to get a few more but I was in a bit of a hurry and didn't have time to port out any more GV numbers.

I tried again at two different Authorized (non-corporate) stores and the experience was pretty bad. I was immediately told I would have to buy several months worth of service, or that the OTD price would somehow come to $150 per phone. I told them I had been able to do this deal for the stated price at a corporate store and I was met with "let me check my system" which was just BS code for "i'm going to waste a little more of your time." I left without purchasing.

I also tried at a Boost Mobile store (authorized dealer) and was met with the same BS... the stated $39.99 (for renewed 11) was "technically true" but it would wind up being $170 OTD after service and activation.

I'm still looking for 2-3 more iphone 11s. I don't even need them to connect to a carrier (I use them WiFi only for my job) if anyone has any advice...

I went to my local Metro (not a corporate one) and they have the same deal for iPhone 11 - Free when porting a number in. It wasn't listed on the little display by the phone tho - I had to ask the guy working there and he looked it up. He said it'd come to $120 after fees/1 month of service - I didn't ask for details but that probably includes a case and maybe some warranty or something. I'm not sure.

Has anyone confirmed if we can port a Google Voice number in? I would port my Boost number in but I'm on the ACP and my cell service has been free for over a year now (it would be $10 on Metro's cheapest plan).

You can downgrade to Metro's $30/month plan after you get the phone. Metro's own website claims that it'd be free with the ACP: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans

(It's just below the unlimited plans.)

Thanks for pointing that out, repped! Looks like that plan is 5GB of monthly data. Boost has me on 10GB with the ACP, and I'm at 4.5GB with 9 days left... Very good to know, so I'm back to looking at the iPhone as an upgrade for my Boost plan after it unlocks in 6 months.

Yep. That seems to be the best case scenario.

And if you want 2 iphones on 2 lines, they will say only 1 per member.
So don't let them take advantage of you. Take control.

Called Metro Service. They said I need to keep the Metro service for 180 days. Or else it will not be unlocked. So the "drawer trick" won't work. Anyone has the same conversation with them?
