I have this printer. It's good, not perfect. In MacOS, to have it print better, give the printer a static IP address from your router, like 192.168.1.50, that never changes. Then, in MacOS, set up MacOS to print to that IP address (not using Bonjour), and you'll not have problems printing.

AirPrint, in my experience, requires that the printer NOT be sleeping. This is very annoying, and mostly requires tapping the touch panel and waking the printer before air printing. Needless to say, i rarely use that feature.

Quality is fine for a cheap laser. It holds 250 sheets of paper, sufficient for me for a year or more.

Scanning can scan to a NAS / network target, like 192.168.1.25\scans, with a previously created username/password. This is useful.

I've no experience with replacing toner cartridges as I'm still on my first batch from 2020. I'm sure I'll be shocked at pricing when the time comes.

Overall, I'd do it again, particularly given how pricing for printers, lasers in particular, seems to have jumped.

FYI, This one doesn't duplex print. I have the MF634Cdw that I snagged Nov 2018 before covid at $199. Works great but I need to take in to have the toner catch tank (whatever it's called) emptied.

Laser toner is just bits of tinted plastic. They don't go bad. You might have to shake up the cartridge to loosen them if it sits for a long time, but that's about it.

I wouldn't buy this printer. The scan feature to the computer is very finicky. Ran out of color toner but only need black and white but the damn pop ups every print is painfully annoying.

$15k printer comment aside, I have a mf743c, which I know isnt the same model but looks very similar and I'm assuming shares some internals and I can confirm it's loud. It's not even like white noise loud, it makes these loud popping and clicking noises that are very jarring. First print out I did I thought something was breaking internally. It's done this from day one but it's mechanically sound and works fine. But definitely not for those that want a quiet printer.

Yeah, I added a used HP LaserJet a year ago (that i bought on fb marketplace) and that thing is nearly silent but since the supply shortage, they just aren't really available. 90% of people selling used HP LaserJets have used up starter toner and dont want to pay for new toner...so a lot of used machines need $400+ in toner immediately after you buy the used printer, lol.

I am leaving it up to my secretary to decide if we keep it or return it.

Agree with this I was shocked how loud it was. But gets the job done.

Have you looked into third party Toner? We use a third party for our HP Laser and it's only like 55 for all vs 400

The only 3rd party toner that I have found that works well has been in short supply since 2020. I personally don't care about the cost, it's just an office expense for me. What I don't like is people buying a printer, using up all the toner, and then trying to sell their used HP for retail.

The generic ink loves to leak and leave streaks and dots on the paper until you replace the offending color. In the 10+ years I had Brother lasers, I never had issues with the generic toner I bought.

Some research indicates brother use LED laser technology which theoretically produce inferior prints but not sure how bad it can be? I'm most concerned about uneven prints.

Are you using "Compatible toner"? I have been but have not had good luck finding dependable toner! Hi. I have the MF634cdw and I have always used this toner from amazon like 3 times and I have had no problems. Got it during Black Friday 2018 from Best Buy for about $170. I love it. I use it to bring stuff for parties for my kids and it prints great

The one you linked has a significant number of bad reviews as well; you either got lucky, or you're looking past some obvious shortcomings because you believe it's still a good value.

I *wish* there was an economical option, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" rings true.
