I just saw at the Newegg site, at the Compare Models between V4A and V6A , it says: it has NO Dolby Atmos. Which makes me wonder why the other SD comment says he uses this as SONOS replacements.

Pretty good deal on a budget Yamaha with Wifi and BT built in. Bestbuy recently had the RX-V385 on sale for $199.00 and as low as $153.00 for an open box but not sure when that'll come around again and it lacked a few features that the V4A has.
I recently bought an RX-V385 for 250. I figured that all I do is stream so 8k and Atmos are not available to me anyway at this point and, like 4k, it's all a bit of overkill for my average sized living room.

I actually prefer less tech (wifi, apps...) in an AVR as it usually becomes outdated and you end up with more issues/ more things to break. We all have our streaming devices anyway.

I have a 4K Chromecast hooked up via an HDMI audio extractor. I use that to mix in some Karaoke! I also have a Switch an and aging Xbox360 plugged in to the other ports. Everything works great. My Samsung tv is the trouble maker here. I actually need to turn off E-ARC for it to work...

I got that JAMO set when it was in sale as well. Pure copper wires FTW! Super happy with the setup.

I would like to say this again, if you are expecting a Sonos immersive sound . You will be disappointed as I almost pulled the trigger on this.

THIS MODEL HAS NOOOOOO DOLBY ATMOS

The amount of people complaining about no Atmos on a 5.2.0 receiver is rather astounding... the best you could physically hope for is gimmicky virtualization.

I am looking to get rid of my new LG soundbar w/ Atmos, a d go back to a receiver based surround sound system. Would this work well with older tower type front and rear surround sound speakers, and an older self powered 12 inch subwoofer? All I use it for is a 4k 86inch LG tv, a Panasonic 850 4k blu ray player, and a PS4 pro.

Definitely no Atmos. People are likely confusing the similarly named RX-A4A and RX-V4A.

Note that earlier versions of this AVR have a problem with Xbox Series X and NVIDIA RTX30 that require a board swap to fix:

I would hope Newegg is selling the more recently manufactured versions where it is fixed, but not sure.

You mean it has NO Dolby VISION , right ? But is has Atmos

Edit : never mind I just saw NO Dolby Atmos
You wouldn't want a dolby atmos receiver with 5 channels anyway. 7 is the minimum for me.

YES Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG (passthrough of all HDR specs)

YES 8K60, 4K120, VRR, ALLM (great for gaming)

NO Dolby Atmos (no ceiling channels)

NO Zone 2 (Zone B is not the same thing) this will not support different audio streams to 2+ rooms. This will only play back one audio stream.

If you want YES to everything above, then wait for the Yamaha TSR-700 (identical to the RX-V6A) to go on sale. I got mine for $399 a few months ago via Woot.

TSR-700 only has max of 24Gbps... it cannot game at 4K 120hz uncompressed.

Can you expand on this? The description states it does have Dolby Vision.

I typically turn off Dolby Vision since very few setups handle it well, but I don't understand how that impacts sound since have anything to do with audio.
I primarily utilize earc so I avoid the video output all together. The app is great but the settings to tune the audio is not. It also doesn't have auto lipsync feature which is a must in any modern AVR. The auto calibrate option messes with my distances that I measured and set before. I just want the db to be modified.

Audio is bland but a lot better than a TV speaker for sure. Comparable to a sound bar. Stereo to 5.1 mixing is not that great. Some channels are barely noticeable. I have small Klipsch speakers so driving them shouldn't be a problem, this is why I thought that this might be a good idea.

It also doesn't have the latest DTS technology. I learned my lesson, if you are buying it for the audio, make sure it has all the new buzz words

Exactly. Atmos would be an expensive and completely unnecessary feature for a 5.1 channel AVR. You want a 5.1 channel AVR to NOT have Atmos.

I'm in for 1. Will make a good upgrade for my HTR-6090.

FYI - I tried to price match at Amazon, Best Buy, and Crutchfield unsuccessfully. Ended up placing the order with Newegg. Fingers crossed.

I assume this affects PS5 and Xbox X as well as PC gamers? And that's crap!

I use these as "Sonos" replacements. Each unit gets you 2 zones. Not a bad price for a amplifier that powers 2 zones of wifi music. I have 4 zones around the house and outside, plus a few stand alone MusicCast speakers.
You mention Sonos and zones, so I'm curious; does this one receiver happen to advertise two sets of speakers each with its own separate Airplay ID?
