The Road is the one of the most, if not the top, depressing dystopian films of all time. I enjoy films/series such as The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, Army of the Dead, World War Z, etc. That being said, this is just a journey into dark sadness with an unsatisfying ending. Kudos to Viggo Mortensen for his acting prowess and transmogrifying his physical body into an emaciated survivor. His elite abilities cannot mask this mind-road of misery that only highlights just a fleeting glimmer of hope extinguished abruptly in the end. There is no triumphant moment. It is only sadness throughout with a puzzling end (hint: how a canine be supported and nurtured in an apocalypse)?

Does everything have to have a payoff moment? I would say yes if the film itself was boring or uninteresting. I don't remember The Road being uninteresting though. I did wish there had been a payoff moment for the Walking Dead. It became so repetitive I stopped watching season 5.

1408 is the best of the bunch here I've seen. Great film.

Transcendence, if I had to summarize the ending. I do agree that it was insanely depressing, but I remember the ending being transcendent if you empathize with the protagonist.

I have to agree with the "have a payoff" comment. I think I'll get 1408 and The Road. Need a third, any other suggestions? For $3.33 each, it's a deal even if it's a one-and-done watch.

You think The Road film is depressing. Try reading the book.

Yep its a tough movie to watch....people need to be warned... you need to be in the right frame of mind to watch this.
The movie feels realistic its almost too real and its depressing. Good movie but kind of tough to recommend.
Sad as all get out!

The road is one of those movies that I never really want to watch again even though it was very good. The whole thing is depressing and just puts you in a bad mood. And I normally love apocalypse movies.

The Descent, if you're not claustrophobic 🙂

This was the most useless sale fanflix ever did - the whole draw is that you can get non-MA movies from more than one streaming service, you just have to lock it in.
