Metro allows their phones to be unlocked after ~180 days. Some Metro phones work with T-Mobile out of the box, though I'm not sure if that's the case with this specific phone.

This. A14 5g has a lower end processor, lower 90hz screen vs 120hz on the A23 5g, slower charging speed 15W vs 25W on the A 23 5g, less os update support than the A23 5g, no ois.
Avoid the A14 5g.

I got the a14 last week just as an emergency back up. and wouldn't you know my phone (v60) won't charge so I'm using it now till I find a better deal. as long as you don't bombard it with non-sense apps it runs pretty ok. pics are not the best. (GO WITH THE A23 LOL)
I just got the A23 through Tracfone (unlocks in 60 days). So up in the air over the A14 or this A23 version.
Kind of wish the A14 had the Exynos chip that some versions have but the Metro one comes with MediaTek, correct? Or maybe spend the extra $10 and get the A23. Also the A14 is UI Core 5 vs full UI 5? Not bothered by the other differences above, I'm not a power user. Thoughts, worth the $10 difference vs additional year (actually, 4 months?) of OS/security support?

The A23 has a snapdragon processor so yea its better than the mediatek on the A14, not only the processor is better, other things as well.
Also the A23 has 4 years of OS support if Im not mistaken and 5 years of security updates, not 4 months, the A14 has less.

Yeah, I saw that too.
What's up with that? I feel they needed to knock $50 off the Get a New Number Pricing but somehow coded it wrong at $50 for Port-In pricing. I wish I had bought it right then.

The 4 months is the difference in their release dates. Actually, it might be 5 (Sept 2022, Jan 2023). I thought both have 2 years of OS and 4 years security updates but I'm not positive.
Yeah, the more I think about it, I'd get another A23.

I don't know when it resets, but I have been buying 1 phone every month from November to February, 4 phones in total
Thanks for the data point. Did you wait until the previous month expired before ordering a new phone? And did you use the same information?

I didn't wait for the previous month to expire, I actually ported out those numbers to Cricket to get iphone 11 deal, I alternated between 2 different emails when ordering, but used same name and paid with the same card, I also had to clear my browser cookies when ordering the next phone.

Resellers marked it as expired deal.
Not much resale on this I think especially considering 180 says till unlock and these phones are not that popular to get much profit. The reason it gets marked as expired is probably because it shows out of stock online and going to store to get it most likely won't end up being same price on top of possibility of horrible service experience.

Yes. This one has a MediaTek Dimensity 700. International versions has the Samsung Exynos 1330. In the case of this A14 5G, the Exynos chipset is the stronger one due to using stronger internals, although if MediaTek made an equivalent chip with the same internals (it didn't), it would have been more efficient than the one made by Samsung using Samsung's chip foundry. All the recent chips from MediaTek and Samsung use reference designs from ARM, so chips with similar internal parts are very comparable in performance minus the difference in the fabricating foundry.

And yes, the A23 5G should have full OneUI 5, as opposed to A14 5G's OneUI Core 5. The A14 5G is missing a number of Samsung features (Smart view, Video background, Good Guardian, Good Lock, link to windows, etc, which I will not go into details). Expect less customization options, but otherwise it is the same base system. It doesn't run any lighter than the full OneUI. As shown on XDA developers, people who unlock the bootloader can "unlock" full OneUI by replacing a few system configuration files that fools the system into thinking it is another handset.

Correct, the A1x and A2x series will receive 2 OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates. Only the A3x after the A33, A5x after the A53, A7x after the A73 would receive 4 OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates. In particular, a number of devices in the A5x series are receiving monthly security updates as "enterprise models". The other devices all start with quarterly updates and drops into bi-annual updates at a later point.

The A14 5G will receive an upgrade to Android 15 compared A23 5G receiving Android 14, and the A14 5G will receive 5 more months of security updates. They are otherwise equal in update policies.

That said, I have gotten the A14 5G and have no regrets. I like the back design (camera layout) of the A14 5G a lot better. I always hated the protruding design such as the one on the A23 5G. As a second device, I would pick form over function. (Co-incidentally, the A14 5G's back design is also the one on the S23)
