Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Metro's online order system is a huge/constant hit or miss. It also changes like the wind sometimes.
I got this deal in December and gave up trying to order online, as it locked on "Find a store". Most of the stores will charge you a $25 activation fee (per line/phone) and many even require a port-in for the 'instant rebate' free phone deal. The corporate store I went to required me to port-in and also required the $50 plan.
So either I had to do that or miss out on the entire December deal for these Moto G Stylus 5G (2022). At that time I wasn't sure the deal would return. Metro sux.
I also hear that the stores try to tell people that purchasing insurance is required. Basically, dealing with the stores is going to cost you more money than dealing with the website, so avoid the stores, if at all possible.

The good news is that phones may go in and out of stock online, so keep an eye on the website, if you're interested in a deal. You may just get lucky and see a phone come back in stock before the deal ends, even if the SD thread is marked as expired (because the phone went out of stock at one point).

Great for you. If anyone else was able to replicate the same with TMobile sim on this (moto g stylus) device, kindly help and guide. I have not been able to.
You can't. Confirmed in the main Metro thread. He's full of it. It doesn't work (I've tried too).

It's $40. Use it for a month and put it away for 150 days. Then unlock it.

The corporate store that I went to did something even worse.
The sales rep lied and told me the phone required "the $50 plan", but what he actually gave me was the $40 plan with another $10 charge for their "Premium Service Bundle" (which includes the insurance, but he never told me about this (undesired) 'bundle').
None of the paperwork was itemized to show this and I didn't discover this until days later when I logged into my new phone account.

That is how they make money. By screwing unsuspecting customers. All the wireless stores do this sort of shady stuff. From what I hear, Metro takes the cake in nickel and dime fees and shaking down customers.

I bought this in december, it's an amazing phone for $40. you have to wait 6months to unlock the sim to use on other carriers tho.
Do you have to have continuous service during that time, or can I use it as a tablet for a while, while I am waiting for unlock

Could you please post the link to that thread? I'm regularly looking for Metro phones that work on T-Mobile out of the box.

Continuous active service for 180 days is not required. Pay for the initial month's service and then let your service lapse. Approximately 180 days after the initial activation, you'll be able to unlock your phone.

Would this work on the Verizon network after getting unlocked?

It should have the required 4G bands but would like to hear from anyone else that tried with this phone
