Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

How to get it unlocked after 6 months? Do we need to raise a request using metro-pcs portal? Or call customer care? Or the unlock process is automatic?
Use the Metro unlock app that is on the phone.

Let the first month expire and then wait 5months as a wifi device
If you do not continue service beyond first month, will Metro report to credit bureaus?

Nope. You're not on a contract, it's a prepaid service, that's what makes this deal so good. As long as you don't mind waiting it to be unlocked.

where else can you get a 6gb ram rootable phone for $40

but others reported the opposite result, it is very new released phone, it should not have variance as N200 https://slickdeals.net/f/16384627-64gb-samsung-galaxy-a14-5g-metro-by-t-mobile-40?p=161063848#post161063848

Mine was activated and 3 days later i swapped and it worked.

The phone said something to the effect of "Phone will now reconfigure and add apps from the provider and restart"

Then it did just that and everything worked fine. It was a Tracfone sim on the T-mobile network

I guarantee you that you cannot just put a Tracfone sim in a phone and it will magically work. Tracfone locks their sims to phones. If you want to use a Metro phone on Tracfone you need a BYOD (Sim card) and register the IMEI with Tracfone.

If someone has Red Pocket, you can put the Red Pocket sim in any phone. It's best to use a GSMT (T-mobile) sim to test out the Metro phones before the unlock period. I am speaking from personal experience with Red Pocket.

In theory a Post paid T-Mobile sim should work on any phone.
Well I can assure you that my Tracfone (safelink) card worked perfectly in my A14

Find a corporate store. Metro stores are NOTORIOUS.
Quote from MusicShark :
you almost got scammed.

Since its longer available online, planning to go to Corp store. Has anybody bought this from a Corp store? If yes, is the total price $60 compared to $40 (online)? Is there any other thing that i need to worry about when buying at a store? I'm assuming we can buy with credit card and there wont be any auto-renew option added.
