Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

I would wait for the unlock before installing the stock firmware since the unlock procedure may look for certain flag in the custom T Mobile firmware.

I cannot unlock the bootloader with my T Mobile Samsung A21. If this holds true for the Motorola Moto G stylus, then we are stuck with the T Mobile firmware.
Moto generic firmware are compatible most carrier variant ...Your Samsung knowledge does not apply to moto

T Mo's branded Samsung phones used to be easy to revert to stock firmware. Have you successfully unlocked and installed the stock Motorola firmware on this phone?

My T Mo's Iphone SE3 appears to be free from any T Mo's extra bloatware. I suspect some phone vendors are very strict about allowing T Mo to install junks on their phones. Samsung phones are full of BS stuffs that cannot be easily removed without the aid of ABD.

Thanks, OP.
Their website is difficult to work with. Tried Edge, Chrome on desktop, no dice. Finally got it with Maxthon. The follow-up questions after placing order is a little bit concerning, that they can get that much info on you to verify.

Holy Crap! I can't believe it went thought. It's a miracle...i should the lottery now! I've been trying for DAYS to get my payment across their website and always crashed. Finally went through this evening..! To those out there still trying, keep at it. It's frustrating AF but worth it for $40.

When I got the dreaded please contact us to complete your order message, the CSR asked if I had ordered from them before. I said, ordered? No. Tried to? Yes, but it told me to go to a store to complete my purchase. And when I did, I was told the S21 phone was double the price and required the $60/month plan instead of $40. So I walked out. Her response was sort of blasé. Like she knew all about the authorized dealers inflating the costs.

Ordering was still a PITA because I had to repeat everything I had just entered online, but in the end, it was successful, regardless. No up charges, no taxes, no additional fees. No background check questions. Just a flat $40 with free shipping.

Blacklisted? If I was, it wasn't obvious from my conversation with the CSR.

If you want to use it on T-mobile, Samsung. If you want to use on another carrier, Moto.
