Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

What 5G speeds are you guys getting?
If you are at home shut off your Wi-Fi and run a speed test.

I asked earlier on the samsung thread but didnt get a reply. If I am a current metro customer and want to use this on metro network can I just put my current sim in and swap devices in metro app or should I activate with included sim first, wait the month until service expires, and then swap devices? If I dont activate new sim what happens when metro tries to automatically activate it in 20 days? Sorry for all the questions I just cant find a clear answer on this. Metro makes current customers go through loopholes to get any decent discount on phones.

Once unlocked (in 6 months), will the phone relock if I do I factory reset (to remove as much unneeded Metro-branded bloatware a possible)?

I know this sometimes happens with phones that are unlocked using traditional code-based unlocking methods, but they can just be unlocked again using the unlock code, but it sounds like Metro's unlocking method is a little different and I'm not sure if a factory reset would remove the ability to natively unlock the phone, if it relocks.

Bloatware will return regardless after unlocking / factory reset. It's baked in. Although some can be deleted later, like TikTok.

You need to call Metro and change the IMEI used on your account to the new one. After that, it should work fine.
The SIM automatically activates if you don't do it, and the 180 days start from then.

A permanent unlock will not re-lock the phone. To completely remove the Metro junks, one must unlock the phone, enable the bootloader, and install the stock Motorola firmware. The use of ADB will allow the user to remove more junks. There are a few T Mo apps that ADB cannot remove.

Are you saying to switch old sim to new phone and change devices then call them to change imei to old phone for new sim so it doesnt get activated with new phone?

Noob questions: I have activated my line today, how do I cancel the metro plan? And do I need to keep the phone ON for six months?
Once you active SIM/phone, you can contact Metro to cancel. Metro will disable your line if you don't pay for the next month. I would try the first option, since you want to be in good standing with Metro if you want to take advantage of another promo.

Put away the phone for six months or use it (WiFi mode) without Metro talk, text, and data.

Activate, use it for a month until that new account completely cancels, then call.

You can bootloader unlock this immediately.. I've done it after my month of service was up. I didn't root it yet though because I want to still get stock firmware updates.

Sim unlock will have to wait 180 days though.
The phone may not unlock if you install the Motorola firmware before the 180 days.

"May not?" Will not. The unlock mechanism is part of the factory Metro firmware.
