Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Tried again just now after trying at least 20x yesterday and I'm getting the same technical or security errors. Over it. Ordered the Edge+ from Amazon Warehouse yesterday and am going to test drive that for a week. $350, but it's unlocked and a way better phone. I was originally excited to get this stylus for $40, but between the frustration of trying to order and the phone being locked for 6 months I'm ready to move on.

The phone may not unlock if you install the Motorola firmware before the 180 days.
All the metro apps and firmware still are on it as stock and work fine. I just unlocked the bootloader on it. It isn't rooted. Theoretically, everything should still unlock fine after 180 days.. but since it hasn't passed yet, I can't confirm.

I just didn't want to be left out of not being able to unlock bootloader like on an old Samsung device when they decided to remove that option with a firmware update. (Although it seems Motorola is way more developer friendly than Samsung.)

What 5G speeds are you guys getting?
If you are at home shut off your Wi-Fi and run a speed test.

I'm getting a dismal 116down / 3mbps up. The icon at top of screen shows "5GUC". My house must not be line of sight to a good tower.

What does UC mean?

What's a good way to copy all my apps and contacts from my other moto phone to this new one? I tried the google backup and bluetooth methods here

But can't get them to work. edit: NVM, used a usb c cable to do it

Once you active SIM/phone, you can contact Metro to cancel. Metro will disable your line if you don't pay for the next month. I would try the first option, since you want to be in good standing with Metro if you want to take advantage of another promo.

Put away the phone for six months or use it (WiFi mode) without Metro talk, text, and data.
so you have to contact Metro to cancel?

5G UC means ultra capacity.
This phone is good for downloads up to 700mbps during off peak times. Typically in the 400-700's during off peak time.

Thanks.
I've given up on my original order that they lost and never shipped.

Just put in another order, tired of jacking with their (lack of) customer service giving me the run around.

No. He's just confusing people with an unverified opinion. I've let a myriad of Metro accounts expire, and my latest handset was delivered today. After another arrived Friday. I got 2 more last time around.

got you, well it seems it is related to the profile (name, address) and only ordering through their support system seems to bypass this "verification" or as they suggested ship to a different address. As the ordering works like this,When you start checkout it creates a profile and as you go appends your info to it and then on the final step it tries to charge which fails with a http 400 error which says "Bad request" and goes to that stupid "contact us page" which is really the correct route as they can really place the order and process it but they say their policy changed but I kinda don't believe that.

A permanent unlock will not re-lock the phone. To completely remove the Metro junks, one must unlock the phone, enable the bootloader, and install the stock Motorola firmware. The use of ADB will allow the user to remove more junks. There are a few T Mo apps that ADB cannot remove.
I actually want to install *T-Mobile* apps, since I'll (eventually) be using the phone with T-Mobile. I just won't need any *Metro by T-Mobile* apps (or whatever other bloatware they shove on the phone).

[QUOTE=gergev;161873566]I'm getting a dismal 116down / 3mbps up. The icon at top of screen shows "5GUC". My house must not be line of sight to a good /QUOTE]

I've been with TM for about 7 months now. I've found the speeds are very inconsistent. I live 1.5 miles from the local tower in a rural area. My speeds are awful maybe 5mb on a good day with only 1 bar of signal strength. Despite the 5G coverage map for my area shows different. When I'm near a tower that can change to 300mb or more. I've learned to disregard any abbreviations that follow 5G. It serves no purpose.
