Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

No. They're wrong. Unless you proactively signed up for Autopay.

So easy for those on the fence. Got email that phone was activated & account shows, 'You currently have no saved payment methods' & 'Pay in a snap w/autopay-Enroll now'.
Thanks for the info. From yours and others experience it looks that this guy's experience about turning off autopay is not usual and may be unique to his account,

Will the service be automatically activated after the phone is delivered?
The phone that never shipped to me was auto-activated after a couple weeks.

5G signal does not penetrate inside a building as well as 4G. It also draws more power from the battery. Therefore, the additional speed of 5G rarely benefit a mobile phone. In a home environment where battery life and placement of the modem can be optimized, 5G can outperform cable internet.
This is not true. 5G running on the same frequency as 4G has the same building penetration. Low band 5G works well indoors. C-band 5G has moderate ability to penetrate objects, and millimeter wave 5G has zero penetration ability. e.g. The 600, 700, 800 Mhz 5G networks by T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon works well indoors. The disadvantage is that they have lower throughput.

That's pretty good. I live in a town of 100,000 and I am only getting 5G speeds of 48 Mbps download in my house (3 bars).
Much lower than what T-mobile is claiming. 5G is overrated.
T-Mobile runs 5G on n71 and n41 primarily. n71 runs at slow speed, but has good signal propagation, and can cover wide swaths of land in rural areas. Mid-band n41 is much faster 5G. It could be your distance to the tower (closer = faster), or that you are connected on n71 primarily.

You never received your phone. How did you know your phone number? Do they create one for you and then activate it? Has your card been charged?

The SIM card is not inside the Moto G blue box. It's also in the UPS box separately like padding material. look inside the UPS box again... (see pictures attached)

you're lucky.

When I stand outside, the cell tower only a mile away, my 5g speed is only 12mbps max

the 5G "UC" signal gives me even lower speed.... 0.8mbps download and upload. !!!

less than 1mbps is unheard of.
I've never seen speed this slow around los angeles suburbs
