Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

Haha. You can't be serious about using an iphone 6s after 6 years as your daily driver. Sorry. I am not buying it. Nobody in their right mind would have an iphone 6s last that long as their daily driver. Battery is a measly 1810 mAh. The phone has a garbage performance battery life to begin with and buying cheap generic batteries don't really fix the problem. I have the iphone 6s and I have replaced its battery. iPhone 6s battery is known to have garbage battery life. Lets not forget how the performance diminishes over time. The phone gets slower and slower over time and new updates. It is what it is. Planned obsolescence. Nobody in their right mind is using iphone 6s so long. With the poor battery life and high cost of genuine replacement battery, it makes no sense to keep an old phone for so long. Wasting money on poor old technology when newer phones are vastly superior and can be bought with great sale. Good luck with you upgrading your phones every 5-6 years. Lets be realistic. Those small iphone batteries last forever for only you. I have the iphone 6s and iphone se 2020 as well. I traded them in. Screen is way too small to enjoy the phone. 4.7" screen is unusable.

Battery max amount doesn't mean anything. An old battery can say 93% but then completely drain dead in 6 hours with little to no use. It is battery drainage. You are assuming that the battery works perfectly fine like the first month you had it but it doesn't work that way. People aren't crazy when they tell you how terrible the batteries are with the iphone se, iphone 6, iphone 6s, iphone se 2020, etc. I had all those phones. It is what it is with 1,810 mAh battery. Common sense. Battery size matters. But you can tell me that you have awesome performance from an iphone 6s six years latter and the 6 year old tiny 1,810 mAh battery lasts days with regular use. Nobody is buying that. Performance declines with every year after with Apple phones. Apple knows what they are doing. They know people aren't using iphones for 5-6 years. People are upgrading like 1-2 years. Maybe squeeze 3 years. 5-6 years with costly Apple genuine batteries? No.

I used to watch Nick Ackerman YouTube videos where he did comparison ios system with some iphones. You can see how the phone slowed down with the later newer system updates. You could read the comments where people say "The new update made my phone much slower now.". Planned obsolescence.
you spew all those words repeating yourself over and over. Go stick with you new phone every year and when a phone with a 8,000mAh battery is out, you can be the first on your block to brag about it.

why is this deal getting so much attention?

Oneplus N20 is a super quick phone with s a gorgeous OLED screen and its free when you port in or $50 if you want a number from Metro. What gives?
No android 13 update coming for the n20 for one.

is this deal over? because i can't buy online now, only in store.
Even with the few phones which show "Add to cart" instead of "Find Store" I can't complete checkout due to "technical issues". Frown

I guess it's dead unless you want to sign up for $60 plan in store (vs $40 online) and pay an extra $20 in-store activation fee.

Just wanted to share my experience with unlocking the 2022 Moto G 5g stylus I bought from Metro. The phone did not automatically unlock after the 180 days so I called them, and they told me that the phone was not used on the activated SIM after 30 days and hence haven't met the criteria of 180 days. I bought the phone in Aug 2022 so my 180 days was up but they are being particular about the 180 days of using on the activated SIM.
Wait a couple more weeks and try again, and report back.

damn this sucks.

do other metro phones automatically unlock?

how come this particular android phone doesn't have a countdown timer?

^^ someone else in the comments also confirms unlocking failed on metro phones

oh boy, we're all gonna be stuck with these bricks

Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
One hundred eighty (180) days must have passed since the device's activation date.

the requirements are unambiguous.

there is no explicit requirement to maintain service for the full 180 days

However, the unlock setting in the phone says this:
Quote :
device must be used on this phone number for 180 days
it sounds like if you're not able to keep the number for 180 days, the device will not unlock

i also found something on reddit about filing a complaint with fcc to get your phone unlocked.

According to motorola message board, it comes with a 10 watt charger but it actually supports up to 15 watt max charging. My google pixel 6a supports up to 18 watt charging. I am using my old pixel 3a 18 watt charger. The pixel 6a never came with any charger.

On the Motorola website, it does state that it does support turbo charging. It isn't just rapid charging.

The specs on the Moto G82 seem very close to the Moto 5G Stylus (2022). I don't trust the specs sites but with the right charger this phone most likely supports 23w charging. The G82 supports 30w charging, so the Moto Stylus could support 30w with the right charger.

So what do you think they are saying?
If you turned on the phone one time 31 days after activation it would have been OK?
Or does there need to be some sort of continual use in those 180 days.

Also what does an "activated SIM" mean past the first 30 days. Do they expect payment each month for it remain "activated"?

You also need to take into account the person could be lying. I don't know many people who by Motorola products on release day.

You are delusional. Stop lying saying that you use an iPhone 6s for 5 or 6 years. Who said anything about 8,000 mAh battery? I am simply bashing a 1810 mAh battery. Battery life matter. It is what it is but you want to pretend that you get awesome iphone 6s battery life when 99.99999999999999999% disagree. I had the iphone se, 6, 6s and se 2020. Nobody can really say that they enjoy using them with that tiny battery and tiny screen in 2023 unless one is a really light user who loves compact tiny phones. As for the performance, it is what it is with iphones. The performance doesn't stay the same over time or improve from year 1 to year 5. This is exactly why I don't always update to the latest IOS system with older phones when the update is available. Watch Nick Ackerman videos and you will learn. As for upgrading phones? I upgrade like every 2 years. I will try to get 3 years with my Pixel 6a before I upgrade to either the next Pixel a line, Samsung or Motorola.

I don't have the Moto G Stylus 2022 5G but I have the Moto G Stylus 2020. I just plugged in my Motorola Moto G Stylus 2020 with a 5 watt charger and also my Aukey dual charger (12w and 20w PD). My Moto G Stylus 2020 says "slow charging" with the 5 watt charger, "rapid charging" with the 12w and "turbo charging" with the 20w. My Moto G Stylus 2020 definitely has turbo charging and goes beyond the only 10 watt charging speed listed on gsmarena. Sometimes people are confusing the supplied charger as being the phone's max charging speed. When other phone companies aren't supplying any phone charger at all, Motorola is simply supplying a 10 watt charger (rapid charging) and not the turbo charger.

I think my Motorola (turbo charging) charges faster than my Pixel 6a (18 watt).
