Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

evidence seems to be mounting that we won't be able to unlock without 180 days of active service. Bummer
for $40 you can always sell it for more than you paid, but they're probably just wrong or impatient... sometimes it just takes a little longer for the auto unlock to work. Not a bummer at all

Can't seem to get an order through. Tried on Firefox (VPN on), then tried edge (VPN off), and finally chrome (VPN off). All just says "Please contact us to complete your order". I want to give you money MetroPCS!

Nope, just going to try again later and if it doesn't work I'm not going to bother anymore.

Same here. Multiple browsers, on/off VPN, incognito mode, different shipping addresses/emails/payment cards... none seem to work.

There's one single report on Reddit that I've seen where someone was unable to unlock their phone after 180 days and they clearly activated the phone properly. Beyond that I don't see any other data points that suggest phones are not being unlocked. The Reddit data point is also an iPhone and iPhones are unlocked by Apple (I assume the carrier would request Apple to unlock each phone), so there's another potential road bump where an unlock process might fail. Androids, as far as I know, are unlocked by the carriers themselves without involvement of the manufacturer. I think people should not be panicking at this point.

Lol I bought the unlock code for $15 but when i restart phone with non metro sim it wont prompt to enter unlock code. Looks like $15 in water.
Please update us on this. I would much rather pay $15 to unlock this phone now than wait 6 more months.

Yes and the N20 is much better looking phone, the OLED screen is mucb better than others in the store and it feels fast. Yes you have to spend $3 to port a GV number and deal with some jerk in the store trying to oversell but if you go to corporate store that problem is solved.

The first try, after I placed the order it wanted me to verify my identity but it failed to load whatever it was trying to load and gave me the message to please contact Metro. The second time I chose a different area code for my new number. It didn't ask to verify identity this time and the order went through. Maybe the area code had nothing to do with it but might be worth a try. I used Firefox.

Managed to get one or at least place the order.

Can someone confirm it has NFC? I know it is mentioned in specs here on SD but the Metro page does not mention NFC in their specs.

Since finding out about pwm sensitivity I prefer LCD to have less eye strain that OLED screens cause me to have.

It's a phone screen. I don't care. LCD these days is plenty good enough.

Some others feel the same and the Moto is a good choice.

OLED is also more prone to screen burn-in. I'm not sure if these phones have added software to minimize this problem.

I prefer Motorola's gesture software over Samsung's. Just ordered a second Moto.
