Sure you can. Section 179 IRS code allows 100% writedown of computer purchases first year they do not discern between new, used, or refurbs. That being said I buy them for resale. I own a computer store that sells new and refurbished computers. We offer computers from $99 to $50,000 servers. We've been in business for 28 years. By the way my first intern job out of high school was for the IRS in Holtsville, NY. I've been writing code since the mid-70's. Finally opened my first store in 1995. For the record most of my business is B to B. Most love refurbs..everyone wants to cost cut..I deal to government, non-profits, schools, etc. Most consumer model in the lower price ranges are built like crud. These are professional workstations and/or buiness models used in banks, hospitals, the military..completely different build quality. On this model--to get new about $1500 per or if you have folks doing 2D cad or solidworks -- you can buy 5-6 of these. Dell also knows they are going to see them again at end of lease--built better. Precisions, Latitudes are built completely different then Inspiron and Vostro. Same at HP. Probook, Elitebook, Zbook vs. Pavilion. Lenovo Thinkpad vs. Ideapad.

Upvoted, and would buy one if I didn't already have one. This is a commercial quality portable workstation, and I plan to get another 10 years out of mine as a home office machine.
Also... These usually come in excellent shape. Dell tends to be quite conservative with the condition description in my experience.

Pavilion is retail consumer quality = poor build quality and associated components NOT the same quality.
I think you missed my point... I've got nothing against refurbs... even my 10ish year old consumer desktop still runs fine. I just question buying refurbs that are that old given the advances in processing power.

Deal on the 7530 or newer? Need Win 11 upgradability
You can install windows 11 on this. I am running windows 11 on an Alienware 13r3 w/ i5 6300. You don't have to have a TPM if you download the install media and manually install the OS.

Unfortunately there's no info on what kind of screen it has, and how large the battery capacity is.

I found a spec sheet online https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocume...-sheet.pdf. It could have the nicer IPS panel or the less color-accurate TN, and a 91 Wh battery or a smaller 72 Wh one.

Just curious….the manual says that Thunderbolt 3/USB C port os "optional" on this model unit and I did not see it mentioned on the site. What ports are included in this model?

Old CPU with a massive power rating. Makes no sense compared to a modern efficient CPU. This should be $100 at Goodwill.

Here is another viewpoint. I ran a 20 million dollar a year computer store like 20 years ago (so you know the volume I am talking about).;

Dell has some cheap crap like many brands but their higher-end items are built completely differently than ANYTHING you will find in a retail store. There is a reason my current business has run almost exclusively on Dell hardware for 20 years now. Hint hint.

I also find it funny when buyers compare CPU to CPU thinking they will get the same performance out of the computer just because it has the same "brain". No, the speed of the components like SSD, Ram and the motherboard make a lot more difference.

Want to talk about durability? We had to change our demo laptops sometimes the same DAY they were placed into displays because of some brands keys popping off. Or overheating by just running a simple demo all day. The worst was the "specials" brought in for huge sales like BF.

I am just upgrading our home desktops and picked up the suggested laptop here. I highly doubt anything under $600 from another brand would beat this in performance AND build quality. But feel free to complain about a deal on an old worn out laptop. Wink

I pulled the trigger already but was also wondering about the display type, battery capacity, and if these came with the optional smart card reader. I guess I'll find out when it arrives.

Ignore the trolls. I avoid refurbished laptops, but I suspect this workstation is built better and has a longer life.

In for 1. Thanks OP!

It looks like you configured it with the Xeon processor instead of the i7-7820HQ.
