From a supposedly T-Mobile employee on Reddit, here is the latest update (5/1/2023) on Autopay discount:

Source:
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/...ange_date/

The new autopay changes requiring a debit card or bank account to receive the discount goes into effect on May 18th.

EDIT: May 18th is for new and existing customers just enrolling in autopay

May 20th customers enrolled in autopay without debit card/back account/T-Mobile money will receive text messages over the next several months depending on bill cycle. They will receive a text message 30 days before their autopay discount is removed. Then a 15 day reminder, and again 3 days before. So the date for existing customers enrolled in autopay will vary from account to account.

Most reloadable cards are eligible for the autopay discount while non-reloadable are not and cannot be used for autopay.

Will update this post with more information as I get it.

Heres an idea that may fall flat. If you use autopay with a bank account number (hopefully an account that has good security since TM has proven no to!!), but then actually manually pay with a CC a few days before the sweep of your bank account, then you get the 5% cash back from your CC(and cell phone protection thru the CC) and perhaps your account is still coded as autopay and gets that discount form TM.

All right folks, I am now ready for the nay-nays.

or perhaps like someone else said: prepay with the credit card, but keep bank acct on file

That trick woeked originally on Verizon but they then caught on to it

is there a better forum for these PSAs instead of "hot deals" ?

I agree with you, there's probably a better place. But... perhaps it's worth the (mild?) annoyance of having a deal alert triggered, for example --> if it means the message reaches a wider audience (by being posted in "Hot Deals")? Just a thought, I could be wrong.

I wonder if they'll let you pay partial with CC and the rest with autopay.

Yeah I'm wondering this too. So if you set up auto pay with bank but make 50% or more additional cc payments towards the balance ahead of time, do you still get the discount?

How much they get hacked giving them your bank account info is probably a bad idea
They got me with leaving my credit card on the account and it sucked.

All my bills go on that credit card and with autopay so when my card was cancelled without me knowing, I was hit with late fees.

AmEx Platinum Business card give a $10 per month credit for charging cell phone to the business card. Plus free cell phone insurance. So it will cover the $10 T-Mobile upcharge on my two phones.

Doesn't completely solve everything but one workaround would be to look to for prepaid debit card deals and collect as many as you could using your credit card to use those prepaid debit cards for autopay.

Don't the cc terms say you have to pay the bill in full to get the added protection though (so you don't just charge 1¢ to it)?

They have to come up with money somehow for the never ending hack settlements.

Link your bank account but still pay it with a credit card before auto pay comes out.

If that doesn't work, prepay the next 10 years before May. Lol.

I hope they will officially notify us before implementing this.
T-Mobile is slowly going down the drain, all that was just a show by that monkey to get the merger done
