My 65 year old dad would love that $129 dollar machine. (I am putting this in a different way) hug

I'm sure your dad would love the $199 laptop even more!

The i3 is a totally different architecture, Intel's main performance-oriented architecture tweaked for laptop use. The i3 stomps the Pentium.

The argument that the Pentium will give better battery life is dubious. In reality, it just allows the manufacturer to get away with using an even smaller and cheaper battery in the build.

The speed loss from losing dual channel mode would be more noticeable than the improved performance of more RAM IMO.

You don't lose dual-channel. It would work in "flex mode" with 8 GB (4 + 4) in dual-channel, and the rest in single-channel.

If I get this thing, I'm putting a 32 GB stick in.

The panel is passable. Doing your basic work tasks and basic internet stuff like streaming shouldn't be an issue. Would not use this screen for anything that requires a keen eye for colors and details like photo editing and video editing.

I realize there are many tradeoffs with a $200 laptop and this one minimizes them. Anyone else wish this laptop had an Ethernet port? I have an older HP laptop with sporadic wifi issues along with a router that has occasional issues. Ethernet seems like a feature that offers redundancy from wifi failures,

Haha thank you, then I won't return for the Micro Center one. My kid is not attached to electronics and much prefers hard copy books. Kid is still pretty little and is aware of technology but absolutely not tied to it by any means. Smilie
