If you don't own one, buy one for yourself and a friend/relative. Good deal on a nice, sharp knife, perhaps the best bang for the buck in a fixed blade. Repped.

Go for the companion over the basic. The rubber handles are great compared to the plastic ones. Worth the few extra bucks.

Yes but IMO that is a positive. Makes finding a knife much easier when out on the trail/camp site. Can't tell you how many times I wish I had an orange knife instead of a pretty brown handled one when in that situation.

Orange I understand. The rest of the fisher price colors annoy me. That and the silly sheath. Just personal preference I suppose. Don't let it turn you off from some good knives.
Blue is also good. Only color not found in nature on the ground 99% of the time.👍

If you're in that situation, I pity you and question your choice in life. If you get off from thinking about it, I hope you get psychological help. If you make a joke, it's not funny to me. Jokes about killing somebody are never funny.

Picked up a couple of the 546. These are great knives to keep in the truck, tackle box, hunting pack, etc.

Most people that buy these knives don't buy them for everyday carry. They're camping/fishing/outdoors knives.

There are several variations of the companion still in stock on the site. See here:

They're only on sale for about $1 off the regular price on Amazon, though.

a preset knife sharpener from amazon is the easiest to use and what i use. you don't need to be an expert just pull it thru the sharpener, cheap but works and lots of variations to peruse......

Camillus Glide Multitool Knife Sharpener (19224), Black, full size

SHARPAL 101N 6-In-1 Pocket Knife Sharpener & Survival Tool, with Fire Starter, Whistle & Diamond Sharpening Rod, Quickly Repair, Restore and Hone Straight and Serrated Blade
That sharpener doesn't have the correct sharpening angle for a Morakniv. They have a 27 degree Scandi grind (54 degrees angle). They're the easiest edge to sharpen, since the edge covers nearly half the blade. This is intentional so anyone can easily sharpen the knife on any flat stone or brick when in a pinch. It's nearly impossible to sharpen at the wrong angle on a flat stone with this knife, even with no prior practice. These are great to carry in a camping/hiking bag: https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp...149&sr=8-3
I may have a bias against pull-through sharpeners due to being a chef for 20 years, but we were always taught to steer clear of them because they ruin knives (I've seen it happen many times). They create chips on the edge, even if they're sometimes too small to see.

There are a million videos out there for knife sharpening, the process for a good result is understanding the concept of what you are trying to do. Remove metal to create a perfect 'edge'. Each stone has a different grind or porosity that can equate to a certain grit or smoothness level. You'll want to start low and go high...lower or rougher surface will remove more metal, and then the higher grit or smoother surface will removal smaller more fine amounts to give you your finished edge. The quickest fool proof method I've seen are using Smiths Diamond combination sharpener. If you want to get fancy you can look for a "DMT" stone, with 3 levels of stones. The level of grit might look something like this: 300-600-1000. Some also use a grinder or one of those variants of a 'system'. There's more than one way to skin a cat I suppose, obviously people struggle with this and that's why there are so many products out there.

There are other stones too like India stones, or Arkansas whetstones...you want to hold the blade at approximately 22 degrees (half of 45, which is half of 90) and then start honing away. I'm no expert but that gets me a usable result! You gotta start somewhere, better to start on a $10 knife than say a $100 knife or a knife that is currently and actively being used in a survival scenario or on the job.
Call you help me understand the difference between cheap metal and expensive metal? Like, is expensive metal harder but more prone to corrosion? Also, why is it more expensive? Just economies of scale?

Have owned and used a dozen styles of sharpeners and stones in the past 40 years. For the needs of a casual user, for the money IMHO it is hard to beat a $5 tacklebox/pocket/keychain pull thru sharpener. A few pulls thru the metal side if chinked/chipped then a few pulls thru the ceramic side is what I taught my wife to do for her kitchen knives if I am not around. 1000 ways to do it, but this is a cheap and easy way that gives easily reproducable "FAIR to GOOD" results for a casual user....IMHO.
Can you please link some ?
