Had mine for 10+ years. My wife wanted one. Initially, I thought it was real waste but now I use it more than she does. If I need instant hot water to wash a single pot or pan, this is perfect. It is not just for cooking, tea or coffee. The only maintenance is a scrub with baking soda yearly to remove any mineral deposits and after 7 yrs, a new lid. The plastic gets brittle after a while and starts to crack. The instruction book says to replace the lid every 18 months which seems a bit excessive. I find this a very useful item to have in the kitchen.
What am I missing here? I have a $12 electric kettle from target that does the same thing and I've used it daily for the past 6 years. My $25 6qt insignia pressure cooker still looks brand new (cook rice 90% of the time) and I've had that for >5 years.
People are really paying $200+ for these things to warm up some water and cook rice?

Yep and you're not missing anything. Want to know why? Because I can and knowing my $300+ rice cooker and this $155 water boiler annoy you is all that matters.

I have this, it's nice that when you want to drink something hot you don't have to wait. If that's not something you care about, you aren't missing anything.
